You were so going to get your ass court martialed for this.
You twisted your body to the left, the wings at your arms tearing through air and barely getting you away from the explosion’s range.
Missile after missile was sent your way, the enemy ship doing all it could to bring you down – like it did the Falcon on his recon mission last week.
“You idiot!” The reasonable half of you spat at the reckless one, chiding you for thinking you could maneuver the wings better than someone who spent years with them on his back.
What were you thinking, stealing the tech, when you were barely made a S.H.I.E.L.D. recruit last month.
Truth be told, you weren’t thinking much at all when you watched the Avengers get captured by Hydra on the big screen above Fury’s shiny head. You just felt like you had to do something, not sit back and wait for things to unfold like your new boss told you to.
And so, here you were! – soot on your face, a burn on your side, your heart hammering against your ribs like it wants out from your body before it gets shot down.
You knew you couldn’t get the Avengers out of the ship all on your own (you weren’t THAT arrogant!), but you sure as hell could make for a good distraction. If there’s one thing you could trust, it was that when the team saw Hydra preoccupied with a pesky little thing like you, they’d make their own way out.
And they did.
A wide grin made its way onto your face as you saw the right side of the ship explode outwards, a red and gold metal suit shooting right out of it and towards the cannons firing at you. Even though the sky was clear, thunder struck the men standing down below, on the ship’s metal surface.
In minutes, your self-imposed mission was complete. The Avengers were out and standing on the deck, unconscious soldiers at their feet. You flew down and landed clumsily besides the Black Widow, the woman lunging forward to steady you on your wobbling knees.
“Well, you’re obviously not the Birdboy,” The Iron Man’s mask retracted back into the suit and he looked you up and down with interest, his eyes lingering on places they should not be lingering sir!
“Nope,” is all you managed to get out, before falling on your butt gracefully, your legs no longer able to support you as adrenaline surged down.
