~this is a fairly short imagine and I kinda changed some things around because we don’t know too much about 10ks past especially his mom so I just created a back story. I hope you all enjoy xoxo~
The first time the dreams come your lying by yourself in a small closet in someone’s else’s home. You bundled yourself up and made your way through the apartment complex searching for the little food that may have been left behind but only coming up empty handed minus a few cans of fruit cocktail. That had been months ago before you had joined the rag tag group called Delta xray Delta. Now you lived with what you called your small family. They kept you safe and you felt safe. Something that you rarely felt anymore.
After a particularly long day the team had finally settled down on a stretch of farmland that was surrounded by apple trees and wildflowers. It was beautiful. Nature had over taken the earth after the years of not being in use. The trees were filled with life, birds fluttered about and bees were roaming flower to flower. The stars were brilliant in the sky and the moonlight made your skin glow. It was peaceful as you laid on the ground running the moist dirt through your hands waiting for the dreams that tormented your sleep to come. You stopped to trace the veins in your arms remembering the times of before when everything was harder. Not paying attention to the boy who was walking up to you.
“It’s nice out here isn’t it.” 10k says as he lays down beside you brushing his hand against your arm. You nod your head but don’t turn to face him.“It reminds me of the field I played in as a child. There was a pond too surrounded by trees. It was peaceful my ma brought me there and we would stay for hours.” he sighs placing his hands behind his head. You both lay in silence for awhile before you decide to speak.
“Your mom, what was she like?” you ask him. You can hear his breath catch in his throat at your question. You know how hard it is to talk about things that happened before first night. You just hope you haven’t offended him with your prying question. You didn’t know much about 10k except that he kept to himself and your crush on him was growing stronger for the dark haired boy. "She was amazing.“ he says after awhile.“Ma always made things better. She would fix the scraps on my knees from falling out of trees and read me bedtime stories. She was really smart too.” you can hear the smile in his voice as he tells you about her.
"She knew a lot about flowers and herbs. She had plants everywhere. They lined each window sill and she took care of them each morning. She use to tell me that if you listened close enough you could hear them whispering the world’s secrets.“ he lets out a little laugh. You roll over onto your side to face him. His eyes are shut and his voice cracks as he says the next line.
"I believed her for the longest time and then she got sick. She told me to not worry about her for the flowers would remind me of her even if she was gone, but the flowers died along with her. It took a long time for me to accept that she was never coming back.” he whispers the last part. You reach out and pick up a flower between you and hand it to him. “ What are they saying now?” you ask. A grin spreads across his face as he takes the flower and your hand into his. “They’re telling me to do this. ” he says leaning in closely giving you a chaste kiss. Your cheeks flame red but you don’t move away only scoot closer to him.
The dreams don’t come that night they leave you in peace, as you fall asleep leaning your head on his chest listening to his heartbeat and tracing shapes onto his stomach. You both get the rest you deserve as the flowers whisper around you in the night.
