Z nation prompt- the group is doing inventory of their supplies. Addy, Doc, and Warren each find something of 10k’s rattling around their pockets or at the bottom of their bags. A gear for his slingshot, high caliber bullets that only fit his rifle, whatever trinkets you think he’d leave behind. They each respond differently to the discovery.

set before 10k gets to back to them, but after the beginning of s3

“Anyone have any
bullets?” Warren calls from where she sits in the front of the car. The door is
wide open and she sits with her legs out in the morning air, counting out the
two bullets she can find in her pack and frowning.

“I think I have some
somewhere,” Doc replies. He’s sat in the grass with Addy and Sun, and he pulls
his old satchel onto his lap to rummage through it. “Where, oh where, are the
bullets?” he murmurs to himself as he goes.

“If you’re searching for
things,” Hector says, leaning against the side of the car. “Then if anyone has
any toilet paper, that would be great.” Addy snorts, pulling her backpack onto
her lap.

“As the official keeper
of the tissue, I hereby grant you two squares,” she smiles. Hector scoffs as
Addy pulls out the roll. As she goes, a string of condoms falls out onto the
grass and Doc laughs in surprise.

“So who do you think you’ll
be doing out here in the wild apocalypse?” he grins, holding the condoms up for
Warren to see. She grins as Addy rolls her eyes, snatching them back.

“They’re not for me,”
she huffs.

“Then who are they for?”
Warren asks.

“They were for 10k,”
Addy replies, before deflating. She frowns at the condoms in her hands, before
shaking her head. “I found them when we were in California – you know, we had
this joke going about trying to get him laid, so I’d pick up condoms wherever I
could. I was going to give them to him before, you know, the sub.”

Addy grits her teeth and
shoves the condoms back into her bag as Doc sighs, resuming his search. Hector
takes the squares of tissue from Addy and heads off into the nearby woods,
whistling as he goes.

“Bullets,” Doc announces
after a beat, pulling some loose ones out of the bottom of his bag. Warren
heads over, and he pours them into her cupped hands. The bullets are varying in
shape and size and she frowns before sitting down on the grass next to him.

“I can’t use these,” she
sighs, before picking out the single bullet that will fit her gun.

“Why not?” Doc
questions. Warren looks up, smiling sadly.

“They’re not going to
fit any gun other than 10k’s,” she replies. “Remember, he was so happy when he
found it at an abandoned army base? It’s way more powerful than his old one.”
Warren stares at the bullets in her hands for a little longer before passing
them back to Doc. “You’ll have to keep a hold of them for him.”

“You really think he’s
alive?” Doc asks, and there’s hope in his voice but there’s also doubt, clear
as day. Warren doesn’t reply at first, but she also doesn’t meet Doc’s eye.
Addy’s staring at her, waiting for the answer, but Warren doesn’t say anything,
just looks over to her pack next to her on the ground.

She reaches over and
unzips the smallest pocket, pulling out a piece of red fabric. Doc’s eyes widen
at the sight of the bandana.

“He doesn’t know I have
it,” Warren says at last, fingering the fabric gently. “I had it when we left
the Zeros, and I was planning to give it back, I was, but-“

“It’s the kid’s,” Doc
interrupts. “He had his new one.”

“Exactly,” Warren replies.
“I thought he was going to lose the black one and he’d need his old one back.”
The conversation is solemn and quiet, no one wanting to miss 10k as much as
they were.

“Wasn’t it yours,
originally?” Addy asks, looking to Doc. He smiles, nodding.

“Yeah – looks better on
him, though. He got it when we were separated, back at the river?”

“Didn’t take it off
once,” Warren says, almost smiling. The three of them are silent for the
moment, and then Doc nods.

“If he survived the sub,
he’ll probably have lost the black one,” he decides. “Keep it safe. 10k will
need it when he gets back to us.”
