it’s been two years since the zombie apocalypse started and a year since you’ve been all alone. you haven’t had anything to eat or drink in three days, you’re slowly falling apart. you stumble upon an old connivence store, you go inside and collapse against a wall. you start to go in and out of consciousness, the next thing you know there’s a z right in your face, you try to let out a scream buy the faintest sound comes out. next thing you know the door of the store busts open and the z in front of you is knocked down, with from what you can tell looks like a metal bat with spikes. you notice the red head standing in front of you and her eyes widen, “y/n?” she says bending down “addy?” you say faintly realizing who she is “oh my god” she says hugging you. you give a small smile and she notices how pale you are, your eyes start to flutter and she grabs the water out of her bag and gives it to you. you finish drinking it in seconds and she looks at you “thank you” you mumble trying to sit up but, you almost fall over. she looks to her right where you can see a tall boy with black hair, a bandana and big goggles on his head. “10k carry her to the truck” she says, he nods and bends down next to you. “is it okay if i-” he starts to say nervously but, you cut him off “yes” you say softly, smiling a bit.
“who the hell is that?” a man with blue tinted skin says getting aggravated. “an old friend and she’s staying with us” addy says getting defensive. “is she alright?” a man with a long white beard says “i think she’s just dehydrated” the boy holding you says looking down at you, your eyes are fluttering at this point. you get put in the back of the truck with addy and the boy, “what’s your name kid?” the old man says “y/n” you say quietly. “i’m doc” he says smiling. the whole group goes around telling you their names. addy gives you more water and she looks at you, about to say something but, then shakes her head “get some rest we’ll talk later” she says putting a hand on your shoulder. you nod your head and start to fall asleep. “so are you sure we can trust this girl?” murphy says shooting addy a look “we can” she says. “where do you know her from?” warren says “we were friends all throughout high school she’s really the sweetest” addy says. your head starts to fall on 10k’s shoulder and your arm swings around him. his cheeks to turn red and he looks down at you and smiles, addy goes to pull you off of him and she grabs her hand “n-no its fine” he says stuttering a bit. doc gives him a look “kid” he says with a stern look on his face, “leave him alone” addy says laughing. “10k?” warren says sticking her head in the back of the truck, while everyone else is out of the truck setting up camp for the night. “yeah?” 10k says “just watch y/n while we set up, okay?” she says. he nods and she shuts the door, you start to wake up and realize that at this point you’re practically wrapped around him. you look at him and shake your head “i-i’m so sorry” you say getting off of him, “hey it’s okay you were tired” he says smiling. “what-uh what’s your name again?” you say embarrassed “ten thousand but, everyone really calls me 10k” he says “10k?” you say laughing a little bit. “it’s how many z’s i’m gonna kill”
he says, you nod your head “okay okay how many are you at now?” you say “well after addy and i saved you, i’m exactly at 5,000” he says proudly “impressive” you say with a smirk. “a-again i’m sorry about laying on you” you say nervously laughing. “y/n it’s fine it was nice” he says looking away from you. you smile and addy opens the truck door “hey you’re awake come on” she says grabbing your arm, you laugh and follow. you’re all sat around a fire, you’re sat in between 10k and addy. the group explains to you about how they’re trying to get to california, about how murphy is the savior of humanity and all. you see the look addy is giving you “i lost my mom within the first month and uh my dad he got bit and i had to mercy him” your voice starts to shake and you hold back tears. 10k puts his arm around you, “i’ve been alone for almost a year” you say sniffling “it’s just everyone, things got bad so fast” you add. “i know i know i’m sorry” she says holding your hand “you’ve got all of us now though, that’s what matters” she says with a small smile on her face. you hug her, “i’m glad you’re still alive” she says squeezing your hand “same to you” you say trying to smile. “we’ll take first watch” addy says gesturing to doc. “y/n and 10k are you two okay with staying in the back of the truck?” warren says “yeah if that’s okay with you?” 10k says looking down at you “yeah” you say smiling.
you climb into the back and be pulls a blanket over you “get some sleep, okay?” he says, you nod and curl up in the blanket. you drift off, you haven’t been able to have good dreams for the past year. so it doesn’t surprise you when you start to have a nightmare, you start to shake and scream in your sleep. “y/n, wake up wake up” 10k says shaking you “w-what?” you scream jumping up “woah it’s okay you were just having a nightmare” 10k says rubbing your arm and pulling you close to his chest. “i-i’m sorry” you say your voice shaky and tears filling your eyes “stop apologizing to me” he says pointing your chin up “you aren’t doing anything wrong, you’ve been alone for a while it’s okay” he says rubbing your arm again. “i lost everyone too” he mumbles “my dad got bit too i had to give him mercy” he adds. you look up at him and see the tears forming in his eyes and you rub his hand “i’m sorry” you say quietly “it’s okay it’s easier now also you understand how it feels” he says, you smile and hug him. “you have me don’t worry” you mumble. “are you okay to go back to sleep now?” he says “yeah thank you 10k” you say laying down “is it okay if i-” you stutter out, he smiles at you and puts his arms out “come here” he says smiling as you snuggle up against his chest “this is nice” he says softly “it is” you say with a smile on your face. you start to fall asleep and be does the same. “i’m just going to check on y/n” addy says getting up, doc looks at her and smiles. addy opens the door of the truck and looks at you and 10k “oh my god” addy says smiling “doc” she says tapping the top of the truck “would you look at that?” doc says. they see the two of you cuddled up, the blanket is mostly on you. 10k starts to move around a bit which wakes you up, “addy? doc? what are you doing?” you mumble rubbing your eyes. “just checking on the two of you” doc says smiling “we’re fine” 10k mumbles sitting up, you lay back down and look at him. you laugh a little bit and he squeezes your hand, “goodnight you two” addy says laughing shutting the car door.
