AU in which 10k and the reader take a drive late at night in the new world, talking about anything and everything

You pull the truck off of the road, heading down an old dirt path that likely hasn’t seen any human life in years. 10k sits across the bench seat, looking out the window. It’s too dark to see much but small glimpses of stars between the thick trees.
It’s still odd to be out without weapons. After three months of safety, you still find yourself reaching for a gun that no longer spends it life at your hip. You still find your heart picking up its pace when you hear the crackle of a branch outside the house. It’s true that old habits die hard.
The monsters have all gone back to their homes. While the dead weren’t brought back to life, the airborne cure was dropped, and effectively killed them, for real this time. No more Z’s. No more turning. No more apocalypse.
The path seems to go on for miles, revealing a whole neighborhood of old farm houses, sporadically placed.
