Prompt: “The Niffler steals something of Newt’s, running to the reader when Newt comes after him. Fluff ensues.”
Warnings: None
A/N: Thank you for all of the kind comments on the last Newt fic i posted! It made my day reading all of them, thank you so much! Here’s another Newt fic I came up with. I haven’t gotten any requests for him yet, but I love to write for him and his creatures. (The Niffler is my favorite- if you can’t tell from my header lol).
“Hey! Get back here!”
You turned around from mixing a potion to see a familiar furry black blob jump over the shed door and race over the floor in a flurry of paws. The Niffler scurried up your leg, his tiny claws pricking you through your clothes.
“What are you doing?” You asked, frowning at the Niffler. He just sniffed, watching the wide, open door for a second before burying his snout into your neck.
“What’s wrong?” You put a hand on his back.
“Niffler!” Newt barged into the shed, his clothes disheveled and his green eyes wide. He leaned against the doorframe panting. “Where is that Niffler?” He asked between breaths.
“Right here,” you said, pointing to the cowering creature on your shoulder. Newt sighed, stepping forward with outstretched hands. The Niffler took one look at him and back even further away from Newt. You exchanged a curious look between the creature and his handler.
“What’s going on?” You asked.
“He took my pocketwatch again,” Newt said.
“Oh. Well, you can’t blame him,” you said, guiding the Niffler into your arms. He sat there, clutching your wrist with his tiny paws and blinking at Newt.
“I’ve told him repeatedly not to,” Newt said. “I love him, but he needs to learn to leave things alone that aren’t his.”
“Oh, come on,” you said, giving the creature a pat on the head. “It’s in his nature, you can’t blame him.”
“Now you’re taking his side?” Newt protested, sounding betrayed. Though he couldn’t keep a grin off his face as he spoke. “You’d betray your boyfriend for a little thief?”
“He’s a cute thief,” you said pointedly. You tapped Newt on the nose, sweeping past him to get a small penny from the counter. You handed it to the Niffler, the Niffler eagerly taking it and giving it a good sniff. While he was distracted, you reached into his pouch and pulled out Newt’s pocketwatch.
“Here you are,” you said, holding out the watch for Newt. He took it gratefully, giving you one of his trademark bashful smiles.
“Thank you.” He tucked the watch back into his pocket safely. He leaned forward, giving the Niffler a little tap on the head. The creature was still inspecting the penny, turning it over and over in his paws. He looked up when Newt patted him, blinking innocently. “We’ll work on the thievery,” Newt promised. The Niffler just huffed, stuffing the penny into his pouch and crawling into Newt’s outstretched hands.
“Now let’s go see how the Occamies are doing,” Newt said, heading out of the shed. The Niffler was perched on the top of his head like a furry crown, clutching Newt’s golden hair as he walked. You grabbed the Occamy food, following the pair down to the Occamy nest. It was just your average day in the suitcase.
