Heat – Loki Laufeyson

justauthoring:

( @creamychickenuggets ) Request: Could you do a Loki x reader where R has insomnia and literally cannot get to sleep unless Loki is with them? Ooh maybe it could be because she has heat powers and she’s always uncomfortably hot because she hasn’t controlled them yet and the only person who can get her to sleep is loki’s naturally cool skin? If you want to make it really angsty R could be physically affected by lack of sleep and she starts crying because she’s so tired 🤔 hope it makes sense! I love your stories ❤

Please don’t plagiarize my work – I spend a lot of my time writing, copying and pasting destroys that. If you want to repost my work. please ask first – but even then I might say no.

You couldn’t sleep.

No matter how hard you tried, you just couldn’t shut your eyes and fall asleep. And this wasn’t the first time this had ever happened – truthfully, it had been happening your entire life.

Because of your powers, you grew incredibly hot. During the day you managed to control it, using your powers to help cool you. But at night when there was no fighting and just you, your bed and a blanket, you couldn’t ignore it. Your body wouldn’t sweat, it was almost like it was internal. It felt like your insides were on fire, and it drove you nuts.

Sleeping was always an issue until you met him. The man that had the coolest touch you had ever felt and just being in his presence cooled you.

So that night, when you uselessly tried to close your eyes, you decided to hell with it and stood up. Walking through the avenger’s compound with nothing more than shorts and a t-shirt, you searched through the dark for Loki’s room. He was ashamed to be a Frost Giant, but you thought it was amazing.

Considering this wasn’t your first time ever visiting him late at night, you knew exactly which turns to take leading to Loki’s room. And within five minutes of bearable walking, you found yourself in front of his door. No matter how many times you had done this, you still found yourself anxiously knocking on the wood of the door, fearing a rejection.

“Come in,” Loki called from the other side of the door. You flushed – he had been probably expecting you.

Ignoring the bubbles that welled deep in your stomach, you slid the door open, peeking your head in. Your eyes found the silhouette of Loki’s figure masked in the darkness of the night. His back was turned to you, and as usual, Loki wasn’t asleep either – rather, he sat on the edge of the bed, rigidly straight.

“Loki?” You called, your voice soft.

Loki didn’t turn your way, instead continued to stare out into seemingly nothing. “You can come in,” Loki spoke, his voice sending shivers down your spine. “You don’t need to ask permission.”

“Oh,” you mumbled, stepping through the barrier and softly shutting the door behind you. “I guess you know why i’m here, yes?”

Loki softly chuckled, and you took a moment to appreciate it – Loki didn’t chuckle often. “To sleep, I presume.” He then turned, placing a hand behind him so he could turn and support himself. Loki’s eyes shined through the darkness of the room and he silently gestured you forward with a nod of his head. You obliged.

Neither of you said anything as you silently climbed into his bed, crawling under the covers as Loki followed suit. Soon you found yourself wrapped up in his arms, arms around your waist and your head against his neck. When Loki had first been forced to join the avenger’s, he was cold, calculating and something told you that in his mind he had been planning the deaths of all your teammates.

You had never expected Loki to be a cuddler, or even remotely fine with the close contact the two of you shared. You had always believed Loki to be a man who stuck to himself and never, ever let someone past that barrier.

You had been greatly mistaken.

“You’re never asleep,” you whispered, cutting through the silence.

“Pardon?”

“Every night that i’ve come here,” you begun, glancing up through your eyelashes to meet the unusually soft eyes of Loki. He was still the same, here at night with you, but oddly different. Around the others, he kept a guard up, around everyone but occasionally his brother. Even with you during the day, he never truly showed you this side of him.

But at night, when it was just the two of you and the wistful darkness of loneliness, Loki changed. His eyes became softer, his body relaxed and his smile seemed un-forced.

“You’re never asleep,” you finished. “You’re always sat at the edge of the bed.”

“You can’t sleep without me, yes?” Loki asked, shocking you. It was such a blunt question, but it seemed so like Loki.

“Yes,” you agreed, fighting the blush – you were glad it was so dark.

“Then perhaps I cannot sleep without you.”

If you thought his question had shocked you before, that absolutely blew your mind. Once his words registered fully within you, a soft smile fell on your lips and you couldn’t help but feel your insides warm, in a pleasant way

You were unbearably hot, and Loki was unbearably cold. Somehow, the two of you met in the middle.
