Sure, my apologies for this request taking so long to do. I’ve been meaning to finish these requests in my ask box.
Envy watched the sun slowly rise from the window of his captor’s room, not moving from his pile of sewing fabrics his captor placed in his jar. Another day of humiliation for him, another day where he’d have to live. How long did they plan on torturing him like this? To not only be humiliated by humans, and kept as someone’s pet, but to actually be forced to live when all he wanted to do was rip out his philosopher’s stone and end his pitiful existence.
Envy’s large eye wandered to the crimson red ribbon around his tiny parasitic body, finding it almost fitting that it would be the same color as the stone he so desperately wanted to rip out. Would it be worth another attempt? It’s not like he hadn’t tried numerous times to rip the ribbon off before with his sharp pointed teeth but his captor had made certain that it would be to sturdy to rip through without actually harming him in the process, though why his captor insisted on making sure it wasn’t hurting him in anyway was a mystery to him.
In fact, everything this captor did was a mystery to him. Not only did they try to protect him as Roy Mustang burned his body over and over again, not only did they place their hand on his philosopher stone when he tried to take his life, but they even had the audacity to keep him at their home like some kind of pet. They promised they would let him out once they found a philosopher stone so he could return to his normal form but Envy didn’t care anymore, he just wanted to get this stupid ribbon off.
Just as his started to twist his head toward his bindings, he heard a rustling near him. His captor slept in their bed not a few feet away and based on the way the covers shifted, they were going to get up soon. Envy quickly turned his head and continued to stare at the sun instead, not wanting to give them the satisfaction of eye contact.
“Good morning,” they said sleepily. Envy could hear them starting to sit up in their bed as they let out a yawn. “Did you sleep well? I can put more fabrics to make it more comfortable in their for you if you like.”
“I don’t care about the fabrics,” Envy grumbled. “Just leave me alone.”
“Is it the jar then?” they asked. “I know you don’t like it but it’s the only place I can put you to keep an eye on you an-”
“I said leave me alone!” Envy shouted in his high pitched voice, quickly turning his head to glare at his captor. He felt a smug satisfaction seeing them recoil at the sudden outburst, mentally comparing their sullen face like that of a kicked puppy. Even in this situation, he could at least get this little bit of power back.
“You still want to die don’t you?” they quietly asked, and the power Envy previously perceived to have vanished like a puff of smoke. How did they see through him so easily? It shouldn’t be possible for a human, he thought to himself.
“I don’t have to explain anything to you!” Envy yelled, he could feel the pricking of tears forming in his giant eye and attempted to rub them away using the fabrics in his jar.
“I guess not but…you know what Ed said…” they started to say, seemingly searching for the right words so not to upset their prisoner more. “You don’t have to be jealous of us humans because you can have it too, if you wanted it.”
“What are you talking about?” Envy asked, a tremor in his voice as he looked towards his captor.
“Human relationships, you don’t…you don’t have to be jealous of that because when I get a philosopher’s stone, I’m going to make you whole again,” they said, nervously putting a piece of hair behind their ear. “Although-” they chuckled, “your lizard form is quite adorable, I’ll be sorry to see it go.”
Envy was speechless, human relationships, making him whole, finding him adorable, none of it made sense to him. Not that he didn’t understand the words but the intent behind him. Were they… were they saying they actually CARED for him? A lowly human…caring for a homunculus. It was ridiculous, he told himself but…if it truly were ridiculous why did their words make him feel so…happy.
“Your a strange human,” Envy finally said, not quite able to meet their eyes.
His captor laughed and shook their head, “Yeah, I’m a strange one alright but I’m okay with that.” Sliding their legs out from the blankets, they let their feet fall to the floor before adding, “I’m going to go make breakfast now, then I’m going to let you out okay?”
Envy nodded as best as he could, before watching them leave. Their words echoing in his mind as he waited for the human to finish preparing the food. He had someone who cared for him, the concept felt so strange. All he could compare it to was Father, and given the circumstances that just didn’t feel like an accurate portrayal.
With Father, he was a tool, an object to be used in order to further the Promised Day but this…this felt different. Envy didn’t know what to think but maybe…maybe they were right. Perhaps maybe he could see himself reciprocating these feelings, wouldn’t that be the day.
