A distant beeping reached him from somewhere in a state of dreaming. “Suzuya?” He heard his s/o’s voice next, more clearly this time. He yawned and stretched after a fitful nap. It was raining outside, and he felt like going back to sleep next to his s/o at the sound of the water pattering on the roof, on the windows. lighting flashed and illuminated the room.
At the same moment the tv switched off and so did the small lamp beside them, the blinking light of the computer power button too. They laid against one another in the dim room, the only light coming in from the gray light, the sun trying to shine in through the heavy clouds outside. Neither of them were too concerned about the power. It would come back after the storm.
“You’re awake… good. I didn’t mean to bother you, but that cookie dough you bought earlier is now done becoming a tasty batch of cookies for us to enjoy,” they spoke quietly so as not to disturb the serenity. “I’ll get them.” They tucked his hair behind his ear and kissed his cheek. They rise from the couch.
Juuzuo leans over the arm of the couch backwards to face the open entryway to the kitchen in order to see them, his sight upside down, his black hair falling over the side while he folded his arm over his stomach. A red hair pin slipped away from his curly locks onto the carpet(the hair pins had slowly loosened over the course of the day).
He hears them softly singing under his breath as they walk back to him, smiling when they see his position. He sits up and scoots closer to them, reaching with eager hands for a cookie, his eyes bright.
He thinks of how much he loves to sit like this with them as he bites into a cookie. It was warm and soft in center, the chocolate chips melted onto his tongue.
“These cookies are delicious. I really like cookies. But I like you even more than them.” he said plainly, tilting his head to the side and staring at them with his eyes wide to exaggerate his statement.
He said it so he could see them smile and it worked. He was even treated so a little laugh and they rubbed his shoulder.
Now it was his turn to grin. He leaned over to peck their lips.
“You’re sweeter than these cookies.” They told him.
He hummed in delight, stuffing another small cookie in his mouth.
So he was.
