I thought of a random idea for an Isaac one shot, where he’s best pals with the reader, who’s recently been turned into a werewolf and has a really short fuse. In school, she snaps when a group of boys who like to make fun of her (to which she normally just replies with something nasty or her middle finger), start talking about Isaac’s past to rile her up. She starts angrily attacking one of them, until Isaac steps in and drags her away to attempt to calm her down before she wolfs out. ^.^

Musical Inspiration: “Remedy”
by Adele.

Honestly, pretty much the whole world
needs to get down on its knees and thank Isaac Lahey for his entire freaking
existence.

You’ve always sort of had a short fuse but it’s so much worse with
your new wolfy senses. There are some days where you can barely keep yourself
in check and Isaac has been there for all of them, holding you back and calming
you down. Keeping you from hurting someone and having to live with that regret
no matter how much the fools may seem to deserve the pain in the heat of the
moment. You don’t know how he knows but he always shows up at just the right
time to pull you back from the brink of destruction. This time was no different.
Except in all the ways that it was.

There had been a time when someone
would say something nasty or rude to you and you’d merely bite back with a
witty retort or a one-fingered salute but those days were gone, your anger
often getting the best of you. There was a group of boys that enjoyed setting
you off. One in particular especially enjoyed your pain. It was like he studied
you, searching for your weak spots so he knew exactly which buttons to press to
have you lunging towards him. He’d noticed how Isaac was always showing up to
rescue you (or rather, him. He just
didn’t know it) and made an educated guess about how you felt for your fellow
beta. That’s why he was throwing ugly words about Isaac’s past at you, talking
about how Isaac’s dad had probably had a
good reason to lock him in the basement. After all, Isaac had ended up
murdering him, hadn’t he?

You’d been walking away from them,
trying to ignore it and keep your cool but talking about Isaac like that was a
serious mistake on their part. You growl deep in your throat and you know that
your eyes flash gold before you’re suddenly turning, hand on the boy’s throat
as you press him against a locker. His friends back off as he struggles against
your hold. His fear is a sickly sweet smell that you take a moment to
appreciate. This time, you were faster than Isaac but in seconds he’s at your
side, breathing heavily and trying to convince you to let the boy go. When that
doesn’t work, he pries your fingers from the boy’s neck, entangling them with
his own so that you can’t put them back the second he lets you go.

“Get out of here,” Isaac snarls and
the boy goes running. You idly think that he probably won’t be bothering you
again as Isaac pulls you into the janitor’s closet to make sure that you’re
calm enough to go to class.

“Hey,” Isaac says, lifting his hands
to your head, fingers lost in your hair, holding you firmly so that you can’t
look away once he’s gotten your attention. “Are you calm?”

You can still feel your heart
rabbiting in your chest, anger still burning through your veins.

“No,” you shake your head. “Isaac, the
things he said—”

“I don’t care about what he said, I
care about you,” he interrupts, not wanting you to think about what had upset
you so that you don’t let your anger affect you again. His hands move from your
hair to your shoulders, grasping tightly. The weight is comforting, kind of
like it’s anchoring you. “Breathe, okay? I need you to calm down.”

You take a deep breath and then
another but when you close your eyes to try and think of something soothing,
all you find are images of that boy, laughing and spilling toxic stories about
this boy that you care about so much.

“(Y/n)!” Isaac shakes you, drawing you
from the memory.

“What?”

“You were growling and your eyes are glowing. Whatever you’re
doing, it’s not working,” Isaac tells you, running his hands down your arms and
capturing your hands in his. “Think about something that makes you happy or- or
somewhere you feel safe.”

You try, you really do. But every time
you close your eyes, that boy’s face is waiting to taunt you.

“I can’t,” you whisper, gripping Isaac
hands tightly. “I just keep thinking about what he was say—”

Isaac’s lips interrupt your sentence,
the press of his mouth against yours making your brain stop working entirely
except to scream at you to respond. You drop Isaac’s hands and wrap your arms around
his neck, pulling him closer as you kiss him like you’ve been dying to for
ages. His hands end up at the small of your back, fingers spread wide as he
holds you to him.

You eventually break apart, breathless
and kiss drunk.

“Wow,” Isaac exhales. “I was just
trying to distract you from your anger…” Your heart drops at Isaac’s words until
he looks at you, eyes flashing a brilliant gold. “But that- I’ve actually
wanted to do that for a while.”

“Yeah?”

Isaac answers by ducking down to steal
another kiss. You’re more than okay with this development.

“Are you calm, now?” He asks.

“Hardly,” you answer with a grin. “But
I’m not likely to maim anyone anymore.”

Isaac smirks back at you, pressing
another kiss to the corner of your mouth before saying something about it being
safe to head to class now. You don’t want to, you’d rather stay right here and
let Isaac distract you from your thoughts for a little while longer.

“Hey, Isaac?” You call for his
attention before he can open the door. Something’s been bothering you and you
think now is a good time to ask. “How do you always know? You always show up to
calm me down before I can do too much damage. How do you know when I need you?”

Isaac doesn’t look at you, his back
facing you and his eyes to the floor so you can’t understand what he mumbles.

“Sorry, what?” You grasp his shoulder
and turn him so that you might have a chance to hear what he says this time.

“I was listening to your heartbeat,”

Oh. Ohhh. “But, wait, that would mean you have to be listening all the time.”

Isaac doesn’t say anything to that and
after hearing nothing from you, he glances up from the ground to gage your
reaction.

“So, you’ve been listening for my
heartbeat to speed up so you know when to come ‘white knight’ me?”

“At first.”

The fact that he says nothing else
leads you to draw your own conclusions about Isaac’s statement.

You conclude that he’s an idiot that’s
completely in love with you. That’s the only conclusion that’s allowed.

So, maybe you spend a lot more time
making out with Isaac in the hallways than trying to keep your anger in check
these days. Really, people should stop staring and rolling their eyes at
your PDA. It’s for the safety of the school. You’re doing them all a public
service, they should be thanking you.
