- Loki can be
- a Very Moody Child
- you can’t blame him, really
- he’s been through much
- much more than you think you yourself could ever live through and come out as okay as Loki seems to be
- emphasis on seems
- he puts on a very brave front, ninety-nine percent of the time
- but sometimes, even the god of lies cannot lie to himself anymore
- and everything just kind of
- crashes down on him
- and his mood suffers severely
- sometimes, he goes to his brother about it
- it depends on what has caused his mood to crash, really
- but more often than not, he comes to you
- he finds solace in your company, comfort in your soothing words
- you always seem to know what to say to help him feel better
- and he appreciates that more than anything
- he comes into the living room or your bedroom
- wherever you happen to be quietly sitting
- and just plops himself down with you
- one day, he seeks you out while you’re sitting in your bedroom
- you smile softly and set your book aside
- and you’re a little shocked when he curls up in a ball, placing his head gently in your lap
- not that you mind, you just aren’t expecting it
- you almost don’t hear him when, after a few moments
- he quietly mumbles
“Would you play with my hair, please?”
- you’re a little taken aback by the request
- Loki’s not normally that touchy-feely
- even with you
- but you can’t say no, not when he looks like he’s about to cry
- you’re quiet, at first
- settling for quietly carding your fingers through his hair in an attempt to calm him
- he doesn’t say anything at first, just lays there
- and then, in a hushed voice that sounds seconds away from shattering like a piece of glass, he murmurs
“My mother used to play with my hair, when I was younger…”
- a pause
- he swallows hard
“I miss her.”
- his voice cracks on the last word
- and you gently shush him
- smoothing his hair down softly
“She would be so proud of you, you know? So proud.”
- and that’s all it takes for him to break down
- you didn’t exactly intend for it to happen
- but you know sometimes he needs to cry
- whether he realizes it or not
- you just have to gently guide him there
- you play with his hair, long after his sobs become sniffles
- and grows still in your lap
- you can’t find it in your heart to wake him up
- so you just leave him
- continuing to gently brush your fingers through his hair to keep him soothed
