Loki decided to have a little bit of fun with the Avengers. Although this time, he wasn’t going to try to take over Earth. No, this time, he kept things… low-key. He did really simple things like hide stuff and place them where they shouldn’t be, vandalize some things, and even messed around with some equipment.
Loki had just left the lab after making fun of Tony while disguised as Thor, and he was in a really good mood. He’s been busy the past few months, trying to earn the Avengers’ trust, to convince them that he really had changed. He was so into his reforming that he forgot what it felt like to be himself, the god of mischief.
He realized how thirsty he was, so he happily trudged on to the kitchen, not bothering to undo his Thor disguise. He opened a can of Sprite, drink he had learned to love, and chugged it down with pure delight as the sweet drink hit his tongue. He almost finished the can when he heard the door open.
“Thor. There you are. I need to talk to you.”
Loki whirled around and saw (y/n) making her way to the fridge.
(Y/n) was probably his favorite person on Earth. She was fierce and witty, but she was also sweet and kind when she needed to be. At first, he didn’t want to open up to anyone at all, despite Thor’s best efforts.
Then (y/n) moved in.
She never stopped approaching him. She would always find ways to get him to do an activity with her. She never stopped pestering him. Even when (y/n) knew he wasn’t listening or paying attention, she still kept on talking to him. Little by little, he began to crack. He slowly began interacting with her more. When she’d try to get him to do something, he slowly started doing these activities more willingly. It got to the point that being around (y/n) became something he’d look forward to. Loki began approaching her first. He would ask her questions about things he didn’t understand and offer to help her with things before she could even ask him to.
She was basically his best friend…
… a best friend he had feelings for.
How could he not have feelings for her? She knew almost exactly what he was thinking, she took her time with understanding him no matter how hard he tried to push her away.
For some reason, (y/n) was looked quite irritated. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her eyes looked liked she was somewhere else entirely.
“What seems to be bothering you, (y/n)?” he asked.
She hopped onto the kitchen counter, taking Loki’s drink, “It’s your brother.”
Loki felt a pang of hurt, but he knew better than to assume things, “Well, my brother can be quite the nuisance.”
“Exactly!” she groaned before emptying the can, “I just wanna… Argh!” she crushed the can with one hand, which wasn’t something new to him. She loved squeezing things. Loki would know. He was a victim of her bone-shattering hugs.
“Do you plan on talking about it or are you just going to keep on crushing cans?” he scoffed.
(Y/n) rolled her eyes, “God, you even sound like him.”
Loki sharply inhaled, remembering that he nearly broke character. He quickly regained his composure and did his best to be all Thor-like.
“Well, his sarcasm rubs off on you.” He shrugged, “So, what did Loki do?”
She tossed the can into the garbage bin, “Remember how he and I went on a mission yesterday?”
Of course he did. It was one of the best missions he’s ever had. He and (y/n) stayed at a hotel, disguised as a married couple to stop a murder attempt. He enjoyed holding her and dancing with her. He almost kissed her, but didn’t push through with it upon spotting the suspect.
“He almost kissed me.” She sighed.
Loki put on his best shocked face, “And?”
(Y/n) huffed, “I don’t know if he wanted to or if that was just an act or… Ugh… I don’t know.”
“Did you.. want him… to kiss you?” he asked.
She shrugged, “Maybe.” He felt his heart soar. It took almost everything in him to not smile or kiss her. She added, “I just… I don’t know what I’d do if he’d kiss me.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean…” she said, “Loki is sweet and funny. He’s smart. He’s fun to be around and spending time with him is the best thing I’ve done in years. And I actually really do like him. I have for a long time.”
Loki wanted to burst from happiness, “Why haven’t you told him or said anything? If you feel this way about him, I’m sure–.”
“That’s the thing, Thor. He’s amazing. He’s unlike every guy I’ve ever met. And me… I’m just some ordinary rookie agent.”
Loki was taken aback by her words. She wasn’t just a rookie agent to him nor was she ordinary. She was so much more. He saw the fire in her eyes when they had to take down the assassin, how poised and confident she was when they waltzed. He could easily spot her determination whenever she was given an assignment. She may have just started being on the field, but she was more than what anyone would credit her for.
“(Y/n) don’t… don’t say that about yourself. You’re amazing. Any man would be lucky to have you. Especially my brother.”
She scoffed, “Yeah, right. I doubt he’d be interested in a ‘typical Midgardian’ such as me. And besides, I’m sure he’d go for someone more… elegant. Sophisticated, even. I’m just a speck of dust next to him.”
All Loki wanted to do at that moment was scoop her up into his arms and kiss all of her insecurities and doubts away. She was far too precious to be thinking of herself as less.
“I disagree, (y/n). Loki is quite smitten with you. He would talk to me about you a lot. You brought out something different in him. You… changed him. I think that’s more than enough evidence to show that he would actually like you.”
(Y/n) smiled and patted his shoulder, “Thanks, Thor. That means quite a lot actually.” He nodded.
Without warning, the heartfelt moment was interrupted when the door opened. Loki felt his heart stop when Thor entered.
“Ah, brother! There you are. No one’s seen you all day. Now we know why.” Thor chuckled, oblivious to the fact (y/n) had no idea that she was talking to Loki earlier. (Y/n) almost fell of the counter realizing that the “Thor” she was talking to was not really Thor.
