A/N: In general, I don’t do songfics, but I was listening to this song on my lunchtime walk and I couldn’t help myself, I was inspired. It just screamed Jason to me.
It wasn’t often that Jason woke up before you, but when he did, he couldn’t help but bask in the warmth and beauty you radiated beside him. He was always speechless when he watched how peacefully your soft lips parted in your sleep and the way the sun shone through your dainty eyelashes. You were cuddled into the fluffy comforter, hair splayed across the pillow. For Jason, there was nothing more beautiful than the embodiment of peace and love at rest.
Jason had spent so much time seeing the worst in the the world, he struggled to believe there was some great power that be watching over him or this world. If there was some god or power, would he have died so young and traumatically? Would so many innocent people suffer everyday at the hands of terrible, evil people? But when he looked at you, especially when you were resting so peacefully beside him, Jason had his answer that for him, you were a gift from any and every god he could ever believe in.
The moment he met you, something changed. He didn’t feel quite so lost in life anymore, he had finally found someone to give him all the love he didn’t know he craved. He was so used to chaos in every direction, but when he looked at you and how peaceful you were, he knew his heart was finally home and safe.
He placed a kiss to your temple gently enough you didn’t stir. As much as he wanted to shout at the top of his lungs his thanks for you in his life, he settled for whispering, “Thank God for this woman, Amen.”
As much as you slept like a rock, unable to be disturbed, Jason’s morning voice always managed to make you stir from your dreams. You never minded though, comparing it to waking up to an even better dream than you could ever hope to come up with on your own.
Shifting onto your side to face him, Jason loved the way your eyes sparkled in the soft morning sunlight. “Morning,” you whispered, a content little smile on your face. Oh how he loved that smile.
Jason leaned in and kissed you properly now that you were awake enough to reciprocate before answering, “Morning, Y/N.”
You scooted yourself a little closer to Jason as he wrapped his arm around you to pull you as close as possible. You shut your eyes as you relished in the peaceful morning. Finally you asked, “What are you doing up so early?”
Jason absentmindedly drew patterns onto your bare arms as he explained, “Just thinking about how good I’ve got it here with you. You give me faith. You give me grace. You give me hope. You give me strength. And you give me love, a love without end. Lord knows how lucky I am that every twist and every turn along the way made sure all my roads led to you.”
Jason loved that he could feel you smile against his chest, but it broke his heart when he felt the tears begin to prickle against him because you didn’t feel you deserved that love or for Jason to think so highly of you. You saw yourself so full of flaws, it always flustered you when he saw every last shortcoming as something else to love about you.
“I’ve been so broken, Y/N, shattered and left to put the pieces back together myself. But you, you never saw those cracks as flaws or something to be ashamed of. Instead, you found your way into my heart through the cracks, made a home there, and reminded me I need those cracks because that’s where your love gets in. I’d lose my way and I’d lose my mind if I faced one day on my own,” he mused. “I’ll never say near enough how thankful I am for you.”
You fell into a peaceful lull, Jason almost hoping you’d fallen back to sleep. He didn’t want to see you so hard on yourself, but wanted you to see what he saw in you. He lay there running his hand up and down your back when you surprised him that you were still awake when you said, “I love you, Jason.”
Looking up at him, you smiled as you continued, “This world has a way of shaking your faith, but every night I get down on my knees when I say thanks for the moon and the stars up above, I also thank God for you, Amen.”
