A small part of him wanted to laugh— ironically, of course.
It felt like something out of those low budget soaps he’d catch Sam watching from time to time, something out of those highly dramatized films Steve would drag him to in the thirties— anything which seemed like an inaccurate depiction of human behavior.
As if something he’d scoff at with a roll of his eyes, something he’d comment on in a volume low enough for only you to hear— anything that would make you laugh quietly and pinch his skin softly.
Majority of him, however, was overwhelmed with the tightness of his throat, the stinging behind his eyes, the stuttering beneath his ribs. It made him clutch his drink harder, slam it against the bar with more force, cracks spidering up the glass to where metal digits gripped with an angry mechanical whir.
