“Make a wish.”

You stare into the night sky from the hill you and your boyfriend were lying side by side on. Jason points into space claiming he spotted a shooting star.

“Hey Jay?”

“Yeah?” He looks over at you questionable.

“That’s a plane.” You stare at him with a tiny smile as the wind blows through your hair.

“What? No, no way. There is no possible way that…okay yeah that’s a blinking red light.” His expression drops as he tries to keep a straight face when you’re laughing next to him. “I’m an idiot. I’m truly an idiot.”

“Hey don’t say that Jason. You’re smart where it counts.”

“And where would that be?

“Smart dating choices since you have me lying next to you.” You reach out and grab his head.

“Yeah…I guess you’re right.” Unexpectedly his face turns serious. There’s a sad glint in his eyes.

“Jay? What’s wrong?” He looks the other way. “Hey, talk to me. What’s on your mind?”

“Nothing it’s just… I don’t know why you’re still here.”

“What do you mean ‘still here’? I’m not going anywhere Jason you have to know that.”

“Y/N…I’ve never felt this way about anybody. And…and it scares the crap outta me. It’s like a never ending fear of losing everything, everything being ripped away from me as soon as I can touch it because of the person who I am. My past. My present. And god knows my future probably isn’t too bright either. So I don’t know why-“

You shut him up by kissing him hard. He doesn’t pull away for a long time and you don’t want him to. When you do separate you move into his side.

“Jason…nothing about you scares me. Nothing about this life scares me. Not enough to make me ever leave your side…I love you Jay.”

He looks at you with a smile softer than you’ve ever seen on anyone.

“You were wrong.” He says.

“What do you mean?”

“That really was a shooting star.”
