  • 77: “ Are you jealous? ”

Jason showed all the signs. Though it was an easy emotion to instill in him, you never would have expected for it to be directed at Dick of all people. You were just playing air-hockey. Air-hockey. Well, you were also talking about Jason, but it was more like Dick asked you how everything was and you just started spilling your guts about how in love with him you were. Ranting about how much you loved Jason took time—you had to go into detail about how sweet he was, how smart he was, how perfect he was—and Dick happened to be completely overjoyed with how happy you made Jason, and so sat around to listen.

“Jay,” you said slowly.”Are you alright?”

Jason Todd is currently pouting on your couch. The complete package; scowl, crossed arms, knit brows and he even had his chin tucked into his chest. You expect the response, and aren’t surprised when you get it. Jason says flatly,”No.”

“Jason,” you said. His shoulders dropped to accommodate your arms, hands clasping at his collarbones from over the backside of the couch.”Are you jealous?

“What?” Jason scoffed. That was a clear yes in your book.

With one hand still on his shoulder, you walked your way around the couch and plopped down in his lap. By reflex Jason put a hand on your knee, but took it off once he registered the action and went back to keep his arms crossed. His skin was steaming as it always was, so you pressed your cool hands against his cheeks and smiled at him pointedly.

“There’s no need to be jealous,” You said. Before Jason could interrupt you with the famous “but I’m not jealous” statement you knew was coming, you raised a hand for his silence, replacing Jason’s words with a sigh,”I’m sorry I couldn’t spend much time with you at the party. I know I said that I’d try and stick by you—because you hate those parties, trust me, I understand—but I was actually with Dick the entire time because we were talking about you.”

Jason eyed you oddly, then shifted in his seat. His arms slowly unwound,”What’d you say?”

“Well, Dick asked me how you were,” you began, then dramatically clasped your hands and sunk into a swoon,”And I was like, oh, Jason’s so dreamy, I love him so much! Did you know how many push-ups he can do in one minute? One-hundred-and-sixty! He also has the prettiest eyes and the hottest voice, oh my god—Well, you get the point. I was basically gushing about how great you were.”

Jason laughed, smile suddenly brighter and maybe a little guilty,”I’m sure Dick enjoyed that.”

“He did. He loves hearing about you, because he loves you and you’re his little brother,” you said sweetly, pinching Jason’s cheeks. He swatted you away, but the smile never really faltered. You felt your face heat when Jason brushed aside any stray locks blocking his view of your face,”And I love you, and that’s why I talk non-stop about you all the time. So you don’t need to be jealous of Dick.”

Jason sighed and rolled his eyes, pretending to be experated,”Yeah… I guess I love you too.”

You embraced him, belly immediately warming with the sensation of his hand cradling your head against his shoulder. He was also just so big that it felt like you were hugging a foam mattress.

“It’s actually one-hundred and sixty-two, by the way,” Jason said.

You pulled away and grinned at him,”Think you can beat it?”

Jason smirked,”You bet your fine ass I can.”
