Worth It
If there’s one thing you had to say about being in a relationship with the Red Hood, it’d be that it’s never boring. His best friend is great, his partners are a joy to be around, and his brothers–all of them–are the best, not to mention Alfred the Great. Something is always going on, and you wouldn’t have it any other way. Why would you pass up this life?
You smile when you enter the safehouse Jason chose this time and see Roy passed out on the couch with a gaming controller in his hand. Roy Harper is a complicated man. He acts childish a large percentage of the time, but he’s actually one of the more mature people you’ve met. He’s the type to keep certain things–personal things–to himself.
The Archer is a softie, and you love him for it.
Putting the keys away, you shut the door, heading to the bedroom to find the man you ultimately love with everything you have. Walking into the room, you see Jason fast asleep on the covers, his face looking so peaceful as the troubles of the waking world pass him by in his rest. You smile, heading to take a shower before getting dressed and crawling into bed next to him.
As you get comfortable he stirs, cracking an eye open.
Noticing, you whisper an apology. “Sorry Jay. Just me.”
He hums, lifting an arm to pull you closer, and kisses your forehead gently. “Hey Doll,” he murmurs sleepily. “Missed you.”
Snuggling closer, you respond. “I missed you too.”
The two of you doze off afterward–you’d both had long days–but the peaceful slumber doesn’t last long.
You’re forced into awareness when Jason jolts off the bed, wide awake and breath coming fast. His body makes a low thump when it hits the ground and helps nudge you awake.
Concerned, you sit up and crawl over to the side of the bed Jason had fallen from. “Jay?” You see his silhouette sitting up and hugging his knees to his chest on the floor when he doesn’t respond. “Jason? Babe?”
When you slide off the bed, and as your eyes adjust to the darkness, you notice he’s trembling. Pair that with the soft green glow from his eyes, you know exactly what he dreamed.
“Jason,” you call softly. Those beautiful green eyes search for yours and you know he’s paying attention. “It’s okay, Jay, you’re okay. It’s just a memory–I’m right here. Me, [F/n], not him. You’re safe.”
Jason’s eyes close and he takes deep breaths, signaling as he tries to calm himself. You pull him into a hug that he’s quick to return as his hands clutch at your back. He’s still shaking, but it’s marginally better than before.
When he starts talking it catches you by surprise. Jason doesn’t usually talk whenever this happens.
“[F/n]–please stay with me,” he whispers. Jason’s voice is so desperate and imploring that the sound grips your heart and squeezes. “You’re everything to me.”
You don’t think you’ve ever responded quicker. “I’m right here, okay? I’m not going anywhere.”
He holds you tighter–pulls you closer and buries his face into the crook of your neck. “Do you promise?”
It’s a childish question, but that doesn’t make it any less significant. “Jason. Even if we don’t end up working out as boyfriend and girlfriend I’ll always be here for you. I promise.” Your tone is absolute. You’d meant every word.
Even if the relationship doesn’t work out, you and Jason will always have the type of bond that can’t be broken. You’ll never abandon him and you know he’ll never abandon you. That’s just how you two are.
You stay in each other’s arms for a little while before Jason calms enough to try and go back to sleep. This time he hugs you as close as he can, with both arms as he starts to drift off again.
The next morning, as you’re cooking breakfast and chatting with a well-rested and perked-up Roy, Jason walks into the kitchen ad hugs you from behind, wrapping his arms around your waist and resting his chin on your shoulder.
Roy rolls his eyes, grinning. “Get a room you two,” he comments.
Jason snorts. “You and Kori were way worse, Roy, so I don’t wanna hear it from you.”
You snicker at Roy’s indignant noise. Turning your head to look at Jason you kiss his cheek. “Morning Hood.”
He catches your lips in his own, smiling into the kiss. “Morning doll.”
“How much longer ‘til the food’s done,” Roy pipes up.
Chuckling, you lean back to look at him around Jason. “Fifteen.”
The redhead grins. “Sweet. I’m willing to wait for it.”
“Freeloader.”
“A proud one.”
Jason chuckles, shifting his hold on you.
A few minutes pass with him and Roy bantering before he murmurs, “Thank you, [F/n].”
You glance at him. “For what?”
Turning you to face him fully, Jason looks into your [E/C] eyes seriously. “You’ve shown me what love can feel like.”
Snorting, you answer, “I told you not to fall in love with me.”
Roy clears his throat. “Too late!” he cheekily states.
Ignoring him, Jason continues, “I’m serious [F/n]. I don’t know anybody else who can make me feel this way.”
You raise a brow, putting a hand on you hip. “I’d hope not.”
Jason cracks a grin at your words. “I just want to let you know that I think you’re beautiful.”
“Thanks, Jay. You’re pretty feminine if I do say so myself.” Jason rolls his eyes and Roy starts cracking up. You smile. “Just teasing, babe. I love you too.”
Jason smiles. “I know. Can I kiss you?”
“Like you have to ask,” you reply before pulling Jason closer and pressing your lips to his.
Roy makes gagging noises to which you and Jason flip him off for in synch.
You break the kiss with a gasp when your nose decides to update you on the food’s status.
“Shit!”
