——

Tim groaned when he crawled out of the dumpster.

That was officially the third worst Tuesday he’s had.

First, the mission turned out to be a trap, then he stopped three naked men from robbing a bank (A sight he wished he could burn from his memory) and then he tripped and fell. From a roof.

Jason was laughing in his comm, all while he could hear Damian argue through the earpiece.

“Father, I request for Drake to be disowned for his incompetence to stand on his feet.”

“Declined.” Bruce grunted which made Damian klick his tongue. “Unbelievable.”

“Are you okay, Red?” Dick’s voice sounded worried while Jason kept laughing.

“Yeah, I’m okay.” He said, brushing the dirt off himself while he listened to Jason tell the others in painful detail again how he had just witnessed Tim trip over his own feet and fall into a dumpster.

He wasn’t going to live that one down anytime soon.

A giggle ripped Tim out of his thoughts as he tried to find the source of it. After a moment of disorientation, he looked up to see a little girl, probably around the age of two, lean out the window, watching him and giggling at him.

A smile spread on his face before he raised his hand, waving hello at his little watcher.

She waved back, excitedly.

Then she slipped and fell.

It was a matter of seconds and immediately he dove, arms outstretched, catching the girl before she could collide with the ground. Instead, it was his face that collided with the brick wall of the building. Pain shot through his whole body as he fell backward, still holding the girl.

He must’ve lost consciousness for a minute, but the next thing he saw when his eyes fluttered open was the prettiest face he has ever seen.

“Oh thank god, you’re alive.” The girl said and Tim squinted in confusion. How long was he out? How freaking fast did the little girl grow up?

“Hello?” she asked, worry thick in her otherwise soft voice and for a moment, Tim wasn’t sure if he was still alive.

A little hand slapped his already bruised face and the pain reared its ugly head back up, reminding him that yes, he was very much still alive. He groaned.

“Lilly, stop that!” the pretty girl said, pulling the toddler off of him. “I’m so so sorry. We usually keep the windows closed but I think mom opened it before she left and If it weren’t for you….” The girl rambled on and only stopped before she could finish that thought.

Tim had managed to sit up, now that the weight was gone from his chest and he looked at the girl that knelt next to him. Maybe it was the concussion that currently made his head feel like a construction side but now, with his vision much clearer, she was even more beautiful. All he could do was stare at her.

“Thank you.” she said, holding her little sibling in her arms as the tiny one tried to break free from her grasp and touch Tim’s mask again.

“N-No Problem.” was all he managed to say. “I think it was my fault she even fell in the first place.” He added in guilt.

“Bullshit.” The girl said strongly, and Tim did not expect to hear such a word from her mouth.

“You saved her. And I don’t know how I could ever thank you enough for it.” She continued, much softer this time.

“It’s okay.” He brushed her off, finally touching his nose to see if it was broken. There was a dull pain and it was probably bruised but thankfully not broken.

Tim noticed that she didn’t have any shoes on and then he noticed the taste of blood in his mouth. He ran his tongue over his lip, feeling a cut on it.

Her cheeks suddenly turned red and her eyes averted his and Tim frowned slightly in confusion as to why.

“Hello, Lilly” he looked at the little girl that suddenly squealed at his attention and started to hide behind her sister’s arm. “Hi.” She said shyly back at him, peaking over her sister’s arm like a game of peek a boo.

“That was dangerous.” He said, a frown on his face and the toddler nodded slowly, intimated by his expression.

“Are you okay?” he asked with a smile and her face lit up, as she nodded heavily.

“That’s good.” He said and the older girl just watched in awe.

“And what’s your name?” He wasn’t sure why he had asked.

No, that was a lie. He knew exactly why he had asked.

“(Y/N). (Y/N) (Y/L/N).” She answered, not sure why she used her full name.

She didn’t ask for his. Smart Girl.

“Do you want to come over for dinner?” she blurted out. “I-I mean as a thank you.” She quickly added, horrified by her own suggestion and all Tim could do was stare.

“I can’t.” he finally said and her shoulder lowered in defeat. “I have to go.” He said as he stood up. He had to leave before he did something stupid. Like, decide to stay.

“Wait.” The girl said as she stood up too.

He watched her as she stepped closer and suddenly her lips were on his.

Oh.

Ohh.

It clicked in his head.

As she was about to pull back from lack of response his hand was on her waist, keeping her softly from leaving as he reciprocated the kiss.

Maybe, just maybe this once, he allowed himself to do something stupid.

Her tense body relaxed immediately, and he was about to do something much more stupid and deepen the kiss when he got interrupted by a voice in his ear.

“Hey, use protection” rang Jason’s voice through the comms and Tim immediately broke the kiss, almost jumping back as he held the girl an armlength away from him.

Shit.

(Y/N)’s expression was full of surprise, as she looked at him, lips red and parted while she waited for him to say something. Anything that made her not want to fling herself into the dumpster in shame.

“I have to go.” He said carefully and apologetic while avoiding her eyes as she pressed her lips together in pure shame.

“I’m- I’m sorry.” She said, face red.

“No-No, don’t be.” He replied.

The moment got interrupted by the toddler, pulling on her sister’s pants.

“Me too! Me too!” the small one said, motioning for one of them to pick her up.

“You know replacement, I gotta admit, you’ve got game. Two chicks at once, wow.” Jason said while laughing.

Shut up.

“She likes you.” (Y/N) said, looking at her sister, a slight smile on her pretty, red lips.

Such pretty lips.

Okay, Drake, keep your eyes up.

“Red Robin, Red Hood! Whatever you two are doing, stop it and come here. We need some help.” Dick’s voice boomed through the comms, the sound of fighting in the background.

“On my way.” Tim said, finger against his comm. It was time to be Red Robin again.

And Red Robin wasn’t allowed any more stupid mistakes on this day.

(Y/N) had taken a step back, picking up her little sibling. When she got up to face him again he was gone. She looked around, a small sad smile on her lips as she realized that he wasn’t there anymore.

She sighed and turned around, on the way to her home, blissfully unaware of the small tracker in her pocket.

Okay, maybe he had allowed himself one more mistake for the day.

And after all, there were still plenty of days left for plenty of mistakes to follow.
