Remembrance

Word Count: 8.2K+
Pairing: Newt Scamander x Female Reader
Summary: A series of moments during Newt’s journey on the U.S. where he is reminded of the best memories he has of you.
Rating: MA (Explicit)
Warnings: Explicit sex scenes; death of minor characters.
A/N: Things to know beforehand: the reader was also a Hufflepuff because it’s kind of a mess to not specify which house they were in (not because I’m a Hufflepuff myself at all– ok maybe a little) and also I don’t think we know when Newt was expelled so I just went and used the year I wanted. Another thing– because we don’t have the specifics of Newt and Leta’s relationship I tried to vague it up as much as I could, because I don’t want to make up another story that will deviate too much from canon.

As Newt’s travel through the Atlantic Sea finally starts to reach its final time and he is able to see the Statue of Liberty approaching, his mind can’t help but wander off to what he left behind in Europe.

You.

It leaves a bitter taste in his mouth to think you’re not here with him– especially because you’ve been married for less than a year– but he knows that you coming on this journey with him simply had not been possible. You have your own work to attend to and it’s not something you can leave behind– he understands that perfectly. Still, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t miss you so much that his body aches all over– but he’ll have to learn to live with that for as long as he stays in this country.

In one hand he carries his valuable suitcase and in the other he has the letter you gave him before he parted– when you told him that he had to read it only after his ship was on its way to America. He did as told, and right in the middle of a word there’s a circular smudge where a tear fell the moment he read it for the first time. It’s the only one, luckily, because he was careful not to damage it any more after that.

There is a tender smile on his face as he reads the last words you wrote, and he’s completely flooded by the sense of peace and rightness that always invades him when he thinks about you and what you have built together.

And whenever you find yourself missing me just remember how much I love you, and be certain that no matter where you are or what time it is I will be here, missing you just as much.

Eternally yours,

[Y/N].
