Let’s start this off with an unpopular headcanon, shall we? Noctis has insomnia, which is oddly fitting given his home city. Gladio accuses him of staying up on his phone late at night, but he just does it because he can’t sleep and he’s bored as Hell with the others asleep. Not that he hasn’t considered waking Prompto up once or thrice to keep him company.
Thus, he naps a lot in the car, because at one point his body just goes “please man you gotta” and it works.
He’s a very still sleeper when he finally passes out. Like, “sleeping like the dead” still. Ignis is always a little wary about it, even though he’s dealt with this for years.
Prompto, bless his sweet soul, is even worse off about it. Nothing like waking up next to a unresponsive prince to get your heart to stop, aye? Noctis is just out cold, though.
