It was on days like this that Kurt wished he looked normal. He was sitting outside at one of the lunch tables, eating lunch with Scott and Peter. They were talking about something, but he wasn’t really listening. He was watching you across the courtyard. Kurt sighed. He was sure a beautiful, popular mutant like you would never be seen with the likes of him.
“Earth to Wagner,” Peter waved his hand in front of his face, snapping him out of his lovestruck daze. “Caught in her orbit again?”
“You could say zhat,” he sighed, resting his chin against his hand.
“Dude, just ask her out.” Scott encouraged. “If you don’t, I will.”
“Me? Ask her out? She would laugh in my face.” Kurt motioned to himself. “Do you not see me? I’m blue vith pointy ears, fangs, a serious lack of fingers, and a tail. At least you look human.”
“She has wings,” Peter pointed out. Now all three of them were watching you play volleyball with some of the other girls. You looked over at them, waving and smiling.
“But she’s not…she’s not a freak. Like me.”
“Dude. You’re not a freak,” Scott said. Peter sighed.
“Scott,” Peter looked to his friend, nodding. “Do what needs to be done.”
“On it,” Scott said, getting up from the table. Kurt watched helplessly as Scott walked over to you. He returned a few seconds later, a smirk on his face.
“Well…?” Peter asked.
“She very politely explained that I’m not her type and that she likes someone else.” Scott said. Kurt felt deflated.
“So she likes someone zhen,” he sighed. He knew it wasn’t meant to be.
“Who knows, buddy?” Peter put a hand on his shoulder.
*Meanwhile on the volleyball court*
“What are they saying?” You asked Jean. You, Jean, Jubilee, and Ororo had all stopped playing once Scott had come over to ‘ask you out’. Now Jean was listening to their conversation to see what was really going on.
“Scott just told them everything you said.”
“And then?” Jubilee asked.
“Awwww,” Jean smiled.
“What?”
“Kurt is all sad because he thinks you like someone else.” Jean said.
“Awwwwww,” you and the other girls sighed together.
“Poor Kurt,” you peeked out from behind the tree you were all hiding behind. “I should tell him tonight then, huh?”
“Definitely,”

Kurt walked through the courtyard sadly, dragging his feet. The boys had wandered off sometime earlier at the instruction of Jean. Unknown to you, or Kurt for that matter, they were hiding nearby, ready to watch everything go down.
You flew over, your wings fluttering behind you.
“Hey Kurt!” You greeted, smiling as you touched down beside him.
“Oh! H-hey (Y/N)!” he replied nervously. “How are you doing?”
“Great,” you smiled. “Um, there’s actually something I needed to talk to you about.”
“Vhat might zhat be?”
“I…Kurt, I really like you. Like a lot. And I know what you’ve been thinking about yourself and wishing you could look normal, but please don’t. You’re perfect just the way you are.”
“You…you really zhink so?” he asked, amber eyes wide and a grin spreading across his face.
“Of course I do!” You smiled.
“Vould…um, vould it be okay if I kissed you?” he asked politely.
“It would be more than okay,” you reached up, grabbed his blue cheeks, and pulled his lips to yours. His arms wrapped around your waist, thumbs tracing circles on your skin. You tangled your fingers in his black and blue locks of hair, pulling him closer.
When you finally let go, he was looking at you with stars in his eyes.
“About time, buddy!” Peter called across the courtyard, shooting Kurt a thumbs up. He smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Come on, Kurt,” You slipped your hand into his. “How about I show you what it’s like to fly?”
