Bruce had met you a few times, but he rarely ever saw you at the manor. Damian would occasionally have you over after you got out of school, but he was always ushering you out by the time Bruce was walking in from the office. He usually didn’t think much of it, but hearing the teasing in the living room reminded him of how odd this setup was.
“So why isn’t Y/N here with you?” Dick teased his youngest brother.
“I think he’s either ashamed of us or of her,” Tim joined in the ribbing.
Bruce was certainly proud as he watched Damian maintain his composure and refuse to give in to his brothers’ teasing. With each passing comment about his relationship, as unconventional as the other boys may view it, Damian’s face continued to contort into a deeper scowl as he struggled to not explode at the teasing.
Quietly, Bruce walked into the living room, joining his sons on one of the couches. The small smile on his usually stoic face told the boys that he wasn’t going to put an end to the teasing quite yet. He let the boys get a few more jabs in at Damian’s expense before putting an end to it.
“You really love her, don’t you Damian?” Bruce asked quietly. He already knew the answer, often choosing not to ask questions of his sons that he didn’t already know the answers to. “You don’t choose to associate with people you’re ashamed of, so I know you’re not ashamed of Y/N. Besides, she seems sweet and you get this little lovesick smile whenever she calls or messages you. I do think, you are trying to shield her from the mayhem that comes with being around the Wayne family.”
Finally Damian’s face began to relax as he watched his brothers tense up slightly and start to slink out of the room. He nodded slowly, confirming, “I do love Y/N, and I am too selfish to let her go for her own safety and sanity. She is too kind and loving to become a target for anyone, our enemies, the media, the scum of this city. She’s the best person I know and one of the only people at school who ever wanted to get to know me just for me and not my last name.”
“You’re not selfish for holding onto love, Damian,” Bruce consoled. “You’re stronger than I am to recognize love in your life and do everything to hold onto and protect it. Just like Y/N is lucky to have someone who loves and wants to protect her in her life, you are just as lucky to have someone who cares so deeply about you in your life. Don’t let that go, and don’t think you’re selfish because you don’t want to let go of it.”
Once again that lovesick little smile blossomed upon Damian’s face, and when Bruce looked down, he could see your face on the screen. Taking that as his cue, Bruce made his way out of the living room, stopping in the doorway and saying, “It’s your decision, but if she spends more time here, we can all work to make sure she knows how to defend herself from all those sorts of attacks you’re trying to avoid.”
