“Wade Wilson get your ass out here!” Logan roared, banging his first on the door. Behind him stood Scott, Kurt, Kitty and Storm. They don’t exactly want to be here, but the professor has ordered them to go. Wade had a girl in his apartment.

But not just any girl.

A mutant. And a powerful one at that. Thy had no other specifics than that. Wade peeked out, letting the door open fully.

“Wolvie! What brings you all to my lil’ old apartment?” He said in his usual cheery voice.

“Alright, Wilson, where’s the mutant? We know you have her.” Scott stated, shoving past him. Wade pouted under his mask.

“Oh, her? I dunno. She’s somewhere in here, but she disappeared a while ago. Feel free to try and find her.” He motioned them in. The room was fairly empty, that’s how it looked, anyways. After a half an hour of searching, Logan sighed and lit a cigarette.

“Those things can kill you.” Came a small voice, but there was no one but them.

“What?”

“They can kill you. Ask any smoker what smoking’s greatest killer is and they’ll likely tell you it’s lung cancer. They’re wrong. The correct response would have been circulatory or cardiovascular disease. There’s lots of other diseases, too. Such as-”

“Woah woah woah, where are you? Better yet, who are you?” Scott asked to thin air.

“It’s rude to interrupt.” Huffed the voice. From the wall came a girl no older than five, whose skin changed colors as she stepped out from her spot. “As I was saying, you really shouldn’t smoke.”

Kitty squealed in delight, making an attempt at hugging the girl. The child flinched and backed away, her skin rippling different colors. The team of heroes looked at her strangely, until they began to notice dark marks and cuts scattered across her body.

She was abused.

“Hey, you don’t need to be scared! We’re here to help!” Said Scott, but she shook her head rapidly.

“Help with what? I-I don’t need help. I’m fine on my own!” She shouted, backing against the wall and changing to match it. It was nearly impossible to see her, save for her eyes. “J-Just leave me al-alone!” She ran to a different part of the room, blending with her surroundings. They had lost her once again.

“We only want to help, sweetie!”

“We won’t hurt you!”

“We just wanna take you back to the school!”

But it was no use. The girl was permanently in hiding, and nothing could convince her to come out.

“Let me try talking to her. We have zhe most in common, after all.” Kurt insisted. Everyone agreed and left the room, leaving Kurt alone. The blue boy sat down in the middle of the room cross legged, and began to talk about everything and anything. There was no limits to the one-sided conversation. Every once in a while he would here small noises, such as giggles or ‘oh’s.’

After about fifteen minutes he was ready to give up and let the others try to find her. “Alright, mein Engel, I’m leaving. But I’ll tell you now, the school isn’t a terrible place. I come from a situation similar to yours, and the Professor helped me out of it. I have friends and a place to call home now. Wouldn’t you like zhat?”

“But how do I know I can trust you? For all I know, you could be lying.” The girl whispered. Tears were beginning to form in her eyes, not that anyone could see them.

“I pinky swear to you, Kleiner, no one will hurt you there. Not so long as I’m around.” The girl stepped out of hiding, her skin turning back to its original color. She ran into Kurts open arms, and he picked her up with ease.

“My names Kurt, vhats yours?”

“I’m (Y/n).”

“Well, (Y/n), are you ready to go?”

(Y/n) nodded, happy to have a friend, a home, and a new life.
