You had always hidden your ability so well, even as a child, something inside you had known not to let anyone find out. You had seen how people reacted to things that were different, your parents included. How would they react to something as different as you? The older you got, and the more you understood about the world, the more relieved you were that you had never shown or told anyone.

Now, all of it was for naught.

You had thought you were safe. No one came here, no one even knew it existed. You had found it as a young child, deep within the forest behind your parents home. It was hidden completely by rocks and trees, but if you knew where to look, you would find the thin little passage that led into the beautiful pocket of nature. A tiny magical paradise, just for you.

It had been your sanctuary for years, somewhere you could come and flex your abilities, while pretending that the rest of the world wasn’t so cruel. But the person standing before you, had ruined all of that in one foul blow.

You paid no heed to their star struck gaze, nor their unusual eyes and clothing. Not even their pointed ears gave you pause. All you could feel was mounting panic. They had SEEN you, had seen the way nature bent to your will, the way the plants grew and bloomed beneath your bare feet.

Your gaze darted to the side, towards the only entrance, and they stiffened, realising your intentions. Reaching forward as if to grasp you, despite the distance between you, they took a step towards the entrance, hoping to place themselves between it and you.

“Please wai-”

They started to gently plead, but you refused to listen. Terrified, you bolted for the entrance, abandoning your shoes and bag, desperately hoping you could reach the exit before they could. You couldn’t afford to be caught, to be found out.
