25 Days of Christmas: Day 08

inkteller-17:

Prompt: “You didn’t really think I’d let you spend Christmas alone, did you?”

Pairing: Jason Todd x Reader

Jason moved around in his small apartment putting the last touches on his small, pathetic Christmas dinner. He grabbed a beer from the fridge and headed into his living room. He had already popped a movie into the player and it was queued up ready to go.

Settling back in his chair there was a soft knock on his front door. Jason froze, like a deer in the headlights. He adored his next-door neighbor Mrs. White, but she could be a tad annoying. Jason had already told her that even though he appreciated her offer to join her family for Christmas dinner he had to pass.

Jason sat in the silence hoping that Mrs. White would take the hint and go back to her own apartment when he heard another knock. Sighing, Jason put his food down on the coffee table and swung his long legs out of the chair. His long legs strode through the tiny apartment in just a few steps.

Without looking through the peephole, Jason whipped open the door with another excuse already on the tip of his tongue. The little ole lady with blue hair wasn’t standing on the other side of the door. Oh no, it was his best friend since the first grade.

“Y/n?” Jason said in confusion. “What are you doing here?”

She smiled up at him. Her eyes were bright, her smile wide, and her nose was slightly pink from the freezing temperatures outside.

“You didn’t really think I’d let you spend Christmas alone, did you?” Y/n asked pushing her past him.

Jason noticed the several bags in her hands. Jason closed the door with a sigh, but a small smirk was already tugging at his lips. Jason followed his best friend into the kitchen where she plopped the bags onto the counter.

“What is all of this?” Jason asked her.

“I love you, but your kitchen is too small. So I cooked up a proper Christmas dinner and brought it to you,” Y/n said as she started to take out the containers of food.

“What happened with you going with Teddy to his parent’s house?” Jason asked about her boyfriend who he really really despised.

“Um, well, Teddy and I decided to go our separate ways this morning,” Y/n told him.

“Why?” Jason asked he was completely taken back by her admission.

“Teddy and I just didn’t see eye to eye on certain things. It is stuff that I will never be able to change. So he went to his parent’s house and I’m here,” She said with a smile.

“Y/n,” Jason began he could see how her eyes softened with sadness.

“Teddy was a great guy, but he wasn’t the one. I knew that” She admitted.

“Come on Y/n, don’t get sad on me,” Jason said.

“You’re right. Go take care of whatever that stinky stuff is you cooked for dinner and then come help me get everything else set up,” Y/n ordered.

“Aye, aye, captain,” Jason teased.

Y/n only rolled her eyes. As Jason did what was asked of him, Y/n continued to open up the containers and start to pull out plates and silverware. Jason skirted behind her to take care of his mess. He stopped and then looked over her shoulder.

“Why so many plates for just the two of us?” Jason asked.

“Well,” Y/n began.

And right on time, there was a loud pounding on the door. Jason looked down at her.

“Go answer the door. Today is not the day to be rude,” Y/n ordered.

Jason just eyed her but headed back to the door. He pulled it open to find his other best friend Roy standing there with Jason’s little brother Damian, and their friends Jon, Billy, and Connor.

“Hey,” Jason greeted.

“Please tell me Y/n is already here with the food?” Roy asked.

“Um, yeah,” Jason said.

“Y/n! Y/n! Y/n!” Damian, Jon, and Billy all chanted as they rushed to the kitchen.

Roy pushed past his friend to go and get himself a beer. Jason looked at Connor.

“What in the world is going on?” Jason muttered.

“Christmas dinner with the family,” Connor grinned as he patted his friend on the back.

Jason stood there with a confused look on his face. Family? Shaking the thought from his mind, Jason closed the door and then went to join the others in the kitchen. Y/n stood surrounded by their friends as she dolled out orders to them. Jason watched as Damian and Jon helped Y/n fill the plates with food. Connor and Roy were clearing off the table that hadn’t been used in months while Billy pulled out the spare chairs from the closet.

“Please tell me you made your cherry cheesecake?” Billy asked as he set down the last chair.

“You will have to wait and see,” Y/n said with a smile.

The others began to cram around the chair. Y/n looked up at Jason. A soft smile spread across her face.

“You ready to eat?” Y/n asked him.

“Yeah,” Jason said his voice cracking and he quickly cleared it to cover it up.

Jason took a seat at the head of the small table. Y/n crammed herself next to Jason and Damian. The boys were already digging into their plates. Conversations and insults were flying around the table. Billy and Damian were telling Y/n all about their last mission. Jason sat back in awe.

Once dinner was done, the boys all helped Y/n clean up before attacking her several plates of desserts. They all headed to fill the living room so they could watch a movie. Jon and Connor were fighting over what Christmas movie to put on.

Y/n made herself a cup of coffee. Jason came to stand next to her.

“Y/n,” Jason said softly.

Y/n looked up at him. Before he could talk himself out of it he dipped his head down and captured her soft lips with his own. He pulled away and she let out a small whimper.

“Thank you,” He whispered.

Her eyes sparkled as she stood on her tiptoes to kiss him again.

“You’re welcome,” she said.

“Can mom and dad kiss later, we have a movie to watch?” Damian asked.

Y/n broke out into a fit of laughter as Jason lunged at his brother. As he tackled Damian to the ground Jason had to admit this was the best Christmas ever.
