Yuri skidded across the ice, landing with an unceremonious “oof!” on his stomach. Grumbling, the young eight-year-old got back up, holding onto the edge of the rink for support. "Are you okay?“ A voice made him glance over. A pale young girl around the age of eight with beautiful E/C eyes stood by the ice, staring at him. “That looked like it hurt."
"I’m fine.” Yuri said shortly, trying to uphold his pride as he let go of the edge only to slip again.
The girl giggled as he scrambled to his feet, glaring at her. “You should try it if you think it’s so funny!” He challenged, and the girl’s face fell.
“I can’t.” She said sadly, looking down. “I’m sick. My body’s too weak for too much physical exertion. That’s what the doctor said, anyways."
Yuri frowned, his young mind trying to find a way around this dark barrier. "When will you get better?” He questioned, studying her.
“I don’t know.” The girl confessed, frowning sadly. “Maybe never. Who knows?”
“I’ll take you skating when you get better then!” Yuri declared, his voice like an order as the girl’s face brightened and she giggled. “I’d like that. What’s your name?”
“I’m Yuri. And you?"
The little girl smiled, testing the name on her tongue. "Yuri. I like that name,” she mused softly before grinning. “Want a hug?”
Yuri blinked as she laughed. “Don’t worry! I’m not contagious.”
After Yuri obliged, the girl laughed. “I’m sorry, I just love hugs. I’m Y/N!"

Ever since that day, Y/N had visited the ice rink daily, always making a point of talking to her newfound friend. Yuri looked forwards to the talks as much as she did, their bonds entwining ever more tightly as they became closer and closer. Seven beautiful years of friendship passed, but her condition had worsened.
And one day, she didn’t show up.
Or the next day.
Or the day after that.
Until a text lit up his phone in the night after he texted her.
Yuri: Y/N, where have you been? -_-
Y/N: Hospital. I’m sorry
Yuri: WHY DIDNT U TELL ME
Read at 11:34 pm.
She didn’t respond.
The next day, Yuri made a beeline straight to the hospital.
"I’m here for Y/N L/N. I’m her friend.”
The bored-looking nurse glanced lazily at the board, then back at him. “Straight down the hallway. First door on the left.”
Yuri practically broke down the door as he charged into her room. “Y/N!”
You sleepily opened your eyes, blinking in confusion as your friend stormed to your side. “Dumbass, why didn’t you tell me?"
Laughing softly, you quickly stopped as an ache of protest shot through your chest. "Sorry, Yuri. It just got bad.”
There was a minute of silence before he spoke the words he had been dreading to ask. “Will you be okay?”
You hesitated to answer, remembering the doctor’s grim smile as tears flooded your E/C eyes. “I’m…having a surgery. Tonight. If I don’t text you by two, I guess you’ll know.”
Yuri didn’t say anything as you looked away, ashamed you had withheld this information for so long before looking back up guiltily. “Hug?” You asked timidly, voice sounding like it did so many years ago at the ice rink.
You was pulled gently into an embrace, and drops of liquid fell on your neck. Eyes widening, you choked back a sob as you pulled away, forcing him to look in your eyes. “Don’t give up on me just yet, you know.” You teased, wiping his eyes. “You still haven’t taken me ice skating yet!"
"Sir?” A nurse poked her head in. “I’m sorry, but you need to leave now.”
“Go, Yuri.” You gently urged, smiling encouragingly as the boy hid his face. “Please? I’ll see you later."
I’ll see you later.
Those words made his feet move slowly towards the door, no matter how much he tried to stop them. The sound of the door closing behind him finalized it. And only then did his heart truly ache.
That night, Yuri tossed and turned in his bed, agitating the fluffy cat at his side.
Should I do it?
I need to ask…
Yuri: How are you doing?
Pressing the ‘send’ button with shaking fingers, he waited anxiously for any type of a response. Glancing at the clock, he cursed at the lettering that spelled out two-thirty.
"Fuck!” He cursed even louder, feeling tears prickling his eyes just as a message lit up his screen.
Frantically unlocking his phone, the tears flowed freely from his blue eyes.
Y/N: Just woke up Σ(゚д゚lll)sorry!!
Y/N: But I had a really nice dream!!!!!
Y/N: It was about ice skating with you. (^ω^)
✿✿✿
"You sure you’re ready for this?“ Yuri looked skeptically at you as you eagerly bounced back and forth on your skates.
"Abso-diddly-lutely.” You declared, breathing in a huge lungful of air that you cherished. Gently, Yuri led you onto the ice.
Almost immediately, your legs slipped from underneath your body and you fell to the ground. “Ah!”
Yuri burst into laughter as your face turned red, glaring up at him. “Don’t laugh!”
“You laughed at me five years ago, hypocrite.”
Struggling to your feet, you slapped his arm playfully as you wobbled. “Shush.”
Yuri just scoffed, turning his back on you.
Making your way shakily towards him, you prepared to push him.
"Hug!“ You yelled in his ear as you weakly pushed him, only to squeal as he turned around and accidentally knocked you over. Fortunately for your skull, he caught you, his arm around your back, preventing you from hitting the cold ice. The two of you stared at each other in silence, your face slowly blossoming into a crimson red as you estimated the distance between the two of you.
That gap closed as Yuri’s lips pressed against yours, making your breath catch in your throat before you returned the kiss, relaxing in his arms. His lips were chapped, but warm against yours. Only after pulling you upright did he release you, both gasping for breath.
"You have no idea how lot I’ve wanted to do that.” Yuri smirked in satisfaction at your red face, ignoring the flush in his own cheeks.
“If you wanted a kiss instead of a hug, you could’ve told me.” You smiled cheekily as you caught your breath, making him chuckle as you wrapped your arms around him, feeling the beating of his heart against your cheek.
Hello! So sorry this took so long for me to write! Midterms were a battle haha But I’m glad to say I passed all of them! So hooray for that! Feel free to go and request something else since this took a million years.

I’m so sorry, and I hope you enjoy!
Yurio: -Yurio realizes that he loves his s/o while they’re traveling to a skating competition in London. And it’s not one definitive moment; more like a whole set of instances that combined and made the thought hit him like a ton of bricks. -When they were at the airport (just boarding the plane I might add) when Yurio suddenly remembered he left his headphones on the counter at home, while Georgi suddenly freaks out because he left his makeup case in the car. It’s just a jumbled mess of the both of them screaming about their forgotten items when Yurio’s s/o just pulls both their possessions out of their pockets and gently tells them to calm down and to head onto the jetway. And Yurio just has this moment of “What would I do without you.” (And Yakov has a “where has this person been all my time as a coach?” moment to be honest. “They’re organized, all their ducks are in a line, and we’re actually on time for once holy shit”) -On the plane Yurio’s s/o (being an absolute hero) decides to take the seat with a four year old behind them so nobody on the skating team has to. And that way Yurio can get his rest so he’s not jet lagged for the competition. Cut to the four year old kicking Yurio’s s/o’s seat ALL three hours and fifteen minutes to London while Yurio sleeps. (When Yurio wakes up and find out about what they had to endure it only solidifies his opinion that his s/o is a literal angel.) -When they get to the hotel Yurio and his s/o share a room, and they wake him up every day they’re there with a gentle kiss on the head, and a light breakfast already prepared. So he’s fully refreshed and on time for practices, which Yakov and Lilia are over the moon about. -While Yurio is skating he can always pick out his s/o cheering for him. Even though there are at least a 1,000 people in the stadium he can pick their voice out in an instant. They always sound so excited and overjoyed for him when he executes his routine perfectly. -But it doesn’t fully hit him how much he needs them in his life until they have to leave the competition suddenly. There’s a family emergency back home, and they have to get on the next plane to Russia immediately. They don’t even get to see the final skate to see who wins. -When Yurio comes off the ice his s/o isn’t there, and even though he just won the gold he feels sad. Yakov tries his best to show enthusiasm, but it (obviously) isn’t the same. His s/o isn’t there to almost hug him to death and give him a new cat plushie (and a kiss), and God does he miss their smile. -They’re not even back at Yurio’s apartment when he finally gets back to Russia because they were at their family’s home a few towns over. The apartment is just so empty and quiet without his s/o there and he absolutely hates it. It’s like there’s something missing, and everything is bleak because of it. -When they tell him they’re on the way home he waits by the door for them to come back. They’ve barely shut the front door when he just latches onto them and won’t let go. His s/o pushes the door closed with their foot and embraces Yurio right back. -It’s very quiet, and if there hadn’t been complete silence in the apartment his s/o would’ve missed it but Yurio says a muffled “I love you” into their shoulder. -If the past week has taught him anything it’s the fact that he can’t live without his s/o and that he never wants them to leave his side.
Otabek: -Otabek too realised that he loves his s/o during skating season. They always supported his career no matter what, and did everything they could to help him. -During the three weeks before Otabek’s skating competition his coach was pushing him harder than ever. Longer practices, stricter diet, more workouts, ect. -And no matter how late practice ran his s/o was still up, bright eyed and bushy-tailed, with a hot meal ready, and dancing to the radio in the background. No matter how many times Otabek told them to just go to sleep when it starts getting late, they never listen. His s/o knows that Otabek wouldn’t eat a good meal otherwise, and they want to be there to welcome him home. -And to return the favour in the mornings Otabek prepares their favourite breakfast, which he delivers to them in bed, along with a cup of coffee. Unfortunately he doesn’t get to stay long with them because he has to go to practice. -On occasion his s/o joins him for a run, or when he goes to the gym to either work out as well or to cheer him on as he prepares to compete. (Sometimes his coach will call his s/o and get them to come to practice when it’s crunch time and he needs Otabek to preform at his best. He always does better when his s/o is there watching) -They’re both packed and ready to go to the competition when Otabek’s s/o gets a call from their workplace. Their boss denied they’re request for vacation time because it’s a busy week for the company. His s/o is crushed (and so is Otabek but he hides it since he doesn’t want them to feel bad.) -So his s/o drives him to the airport in the morning, and with one final kiss they have to leave him at the main entrance. His coach can see that Otabek is upset, and his s/o has barely even driven out of sight yet. He gets on the plane and goes to the competition trying to put on a brave face. -But it’s the first time his s/o has ever not been there when he was competing. And something about that hits him just right on the day of his free skate, and it’s an absolute disaster. (I’m talking about a JJ type of disaster) He ends up getting one of his lowest scores ever, and it breaks his s/o’s heart. -They were watching it all on TV, and even though he seems unfazed his s/o knows he’s just trying to be tough. He doesn’t even pick up their phone calls because he feels like he’s let his s/o and his country down. -So Otabek’s s/o goes into work the next day and basically tells their boss that the love of their life needs them, and that if they have any problems with that please let them know after they return home. And with that they hop on the next flight to where the competition is being held. When Otabek’s s/o knocks on his hotel door he is overwhelmingly happy to see them. He holds them tight, almost as if he’s afraid his s/o will disappear if he let go. They just rub his back and tell him it’s ok, and that they love him very much. That hug explained all the emotions that he was feeling that he just couldn’t put into words. And his s/o understood all of it. -That was the moment he realised he loved his s/o to the ends of the earth. They fell in love with him because he was Otabek Atlin and not the hero of Kazakhstan. His s/o had become such an important part of his life he couldn’t imagine his life without them in it.
