once fuyumi gets her own apartment for her and shouto, she’s very careful about what she chooses. she doesn’t have much taste for a traditional japanese style home anymore, but she knows shouto prefers that, so she finds something western-style but with an open floorplan and resolves to lay down tatami within the first week. there’s a balcony, albeit a small one, so the plants natsuo gives them can sit out in the sun when it’s warm. they keep no kettles, and instead use an electric teapot. the windows aren’t huge, but they get a surprising amount of light, and the curtains are always thrown wide, or else the windows are cracked to listen to the rain
there’s three bedrooms too, which is impressive. one for fuyumi, one for shouto, and the third. the unused room is the master, because fuyumi and shouto bickered too much about which one of them should have it (“i live in a dorm during the school year i’m used to a small room, you take it” “yes so you should have a nice big one when you’re home, you take it” “you’ve never had a comfortable bedroom in your life and your girlfriend won’t want to be all cramped when she stays the night, you take it” “SHOUTO,”). it all works out though: they make the third the guest room, but they both know it’s natsuo’s. there’s some spare plant food, a jacket he left there, a couple empty bottles of whatever his favorite protein drink of the week is in the trash can. he needs a place to call home as much as the rest of them, even though he’s on campus more often than not.
there’s a second bed in the guest room. fuyumi always says it’s “just in case, y’know, someone else is staying here.” the bedding is washed weekly along with everything else, and the dark grey blanket folded at the end always stands in stark contrast to the soft coloration of the rest of the house. it was chosen with intent, not that any of them will say as much
fuyumi’s cats enjoy napping on the fourth bed, the black fur blending in, the calico not as much. none of them make any effort to stop them, and why would they? it’s always nice to have a warm bed and a soft companion or two when you finally come home
