A/N: So here’s general headcanons about dating Al, let me know if you wanted something more specific or something, anon! 😛
Ever since you met, you’ve gotten along so well!
You have a natural connection and it’s so easy to chat with him
Each other’s presence is also reassuring and somehow familiar
It puts you in a good mood
You have a very close relationship
You found yourself traveling with them
Because, although not as well, you get along with Ed too
When you found out about their past, you just wanted to help
At first it was very weird for you to think about Al’s armor
But with time you grew used to it and found it more normal
Even if you can’t wait for him and Ed to get their bodies back
Suggesting things for Al to put on his list when he recovers his body
Especially things he cant eat!
You call each other cute nicknames
Even if it’s mostly abbreviations of your names
Inside jokes that make you both giggle
You laugh a lot when you’re together
Whether is with jokes or just because you have so much fun
Pointing out cute cats to each other
Lots of playfulness
Besides the fun and cute part of your relationship, you care a lot
Alphonse talks to Edward too, but he also loves talking to you
And since he doesn’t want to burden his brother even more too
You’re always there to listen to him and try to cheer him up
At the same time, Al is always so attentive towards you
He listens carefully when you have anything to say
You can tell how much he adores you, even with that emotionless armor
How passionate his voice sounds around you, how excited and lively
You and Al can chat for literally hours
Every night you find yourselves talking about whatever random thing
Until you eventually give in to exhaustion
Because talking to him you hadn’t even realized how tired you were
And when you wake up you are always covered with a blanket
Alphonse looks after you a lot
More than once, he’s used his armor as a shield to protect you
He loves hugging you because he can almost feel your warmth against his cold and empty armor
Also taking your hand, even if it is in his big glove
It’s a bit of an oddysey, but you stick together no matter what
You’re always there for each other
And in a way, the journey is easier having each other close
Then everything’s over and you can have normal lives
When you finally see him in his actual body you tear up
After so long, you see him and you swear you haven’t seen something as beautiful in your life
He’s very thin after all, but you two joke saying he finally gets to eat all he’s been wanting
Or how you pictured him differently
Since you met him already in the armor
You actually hug him (for the first actual time) and it literally takes you actual minutes to be able to let go of him
And when you had your actual first kiss you nearly melted

Al’s bound to be a bit awkward at first. The last time he was a person was when he was a child so he’s just trying to get his bearings back at first. It’s just so nice to be flesh and blood again, thanks to his brother’s sacrifice. While he was a soul attached to armor, the thing he missed more than food was touch. His brother’s pinches and prods, his mother’s hugs, holding his father’s hand, he missed it all.
Now that he’s human again he’s going to make up for all that lost time.
He’d much rather just “go for it” rather than be blunt about his needs, but the last thing his wants to do is make his S/O uncomfortable. He’ll start off with small things when they begin to date.
The first time he asks to hold their hand is just too cute. He’ll walk up to them, toying with both of his hands and staring at the ground. If his S/O asks him whats wrong he’ll manage a shy: “[S/O]… can… can we… um… hold hands..?” He pauses a lot in his speak at first; he’s just so unsure of his S/O’s limits.
He’s going to want to end each date with a hug at the very least; it assures him he’s done well. He’ll open up his arms as a non-verbal gesture to try and initiate one. If this works, he’ll be absolutely over the moon with joy. If this doesn’t work or they don’t understand, he’ll quickly clap his hands together to make something cute. Because clearly that was his intent all along right? You believe him right?
When Al and his S/O aren’t together, he’ll often invite his cats up to his lap and chest to give them his affection instead. The whole time he’s petting them, he’s imagining what it would be like to hold his S/O close like this, what their hair might be like, whether or not they would enjoy scratches behind the ear, what can he possibly do to discover all of these lovely things with his partner.
His fantasies can get pretty vivid, and the imagining only continues in his dreams. But his dreams are a little more.. graphic.
At a certain point, this lack of physical affection is going to get to him. He feels exponentially more needy every time he sees them. The more needy he gets, the more blunt he’ll be about this whole situation: “[S/O]… please… I really need a hug right now!” He’s not too pushy about it, but from his tearful eyes, red face, and pouting lips, it’s a very difficult offer to resist.
