-Him calling you his little prince/princess and telling you one day you will be the heir to a worthy kingdom.
-He teaches you magic, just as Frigga did him.
-Also teaches you to be as quickly cunning and crafty he is, all the skills necessary to get out of the stickiest situations.
-‘Uncle Thor’ loves you, and visiting you. Much to Loki’s displeasure.
-He wants to do good by you, something he wasn’t able to with your past siblings.
And vows to be a much better father than Odin was to him.
-You’re his prankster protégé, he gives you tips and sends you off to practice on the avengers. (They can’t stay mad with your adorable charm)
-Each night before bed he will tell you a story, even as you grow older. It’s something he has done since your birth night.
-Usually it’s one of the many tales of his adventurous times with Thor.
-Loki will teach you to master twin blades just like him, and will help you design a functional (green and black if he can convince you) signature attire. One must be stylish in the midst of battle, just look at him.
-He has made many consequential mistakes, many of which people still speak of bitchily. And hopes he will at least be able to give you advice.
-Is both furious and overly proud when you finally become good enough with your magic and abilities to slip past him. Will roll his eyes when you try sneaking back, he made this game. Definitely points out the flaws in your plan.
-He’s not happy you tried tricking him but it’s better him now then to fail later he supposes.
-Speaking of, he is extremely disappointed when you’re caught in a lie or con.
-He taught you better than to be caught.
-Not a lovey dovey or boisterous father like Thor would be, (Not that you don’t get all that from uncle Thor anyway, he’s so proud of you. Even if you stab someone. It’s a family thing he supposes.) but Loki truly cares for you. His sentiment is just more unspoken and tries to show he cares for you other ways.
-You came home with a ‘puppy’ once and it was your long lost brother Fenris.
-What a day that was. Loki had a migraine and you determinedly decided to keep your brother.
-You always join him on his sudden ‘adventures’ whether you’re into the whole planet ruling thing or not. It’s father-child bonding time.
-He always finds a way to assure your safety no matter what he gets himself into.
-You are the one thing that could be lorded over him, but he refuses to let that happen.
-He likes Peter Parker, truly he’s an interesting goofy kid. Respectful idiot, from time to time.
-Likes Peter less when he notices how starry eyed Peter is upon seeing you for the first time. And every moment after.
– “No.” he mutters while catching Peter starring at you for the umpteenth time and drags him away by the collar of his shirt, leaving you confused
– “B-but mister Loki-!?”
– “NO.”
Imagine going to the zoo with Loki and at one of the enclosures an animal comes as close as it can to you and Loki, ‘The Largest ______ In Captivity’ the sign reads.
Loki hums, looking interested for the first time today “So this is where my son has been residing, he’s been missing for decades.”
The last part to the not-so-thrilling saga of Loki Trying His Best To Be A Good Dad
At what point is it too late to make amends with an estranged child.
Is it after you were absent through it’s life, while it was used as a weapon and battle mount then killed, then resurrected to be used in battle again, and fought you, then was thrown into an empty sea and off a waterfall to presumably die?
Loki took a deep breath and mulled over those thoughts as he watched Fenris, who was worn ragged and soaked to the bone. Just fished from one of the lakes of a so far uninhabited world he fell to after the destruction of Asgard.
Maybe he should leave before Fenris awakens. More chance of survival that way. But the heaving breathes of the wolf and guilt Loki previously didn’t know he had kept him in place.
Loki now knows for some there is the possibility of a second chance, of having purpose and even a ‘happy ending’. But a giant wolf trained only to destroy? Was that possible? Had Fenris ever been shown affection at all in his days, Loki wasn’t aware.
Fenris’s groaned, too exhausted to move and barely able to open his eyes, yet he could sense he wasn’t alone, head shifting to stare at Loki and it was enough.
Loki recognized the brokenness of Fenris’s gaze, shattered fate and acceptance that this was the end. Anyone could easily kill Fenris in such a state, and Heimdall knows many would like to.
Loki sighed loudly. It was more of a groan at this point, and covered his face with his hand. He was really going through with this, his admittedly worst plan yet.
Smuggling a nearly 2 ton injured and whiny wolf through the realms and into Midgard was much easier than it should’ve been. Especially with that wizard upstart ‘guarding’ Midgard. True, he took more remote portals and realm tears, but it would almost be worrisome if Loki had cared.
A few strong and well placed illusions and Fenris was securely hidden where no pesky wizards or otherwise would find him, a scenic part of the forest Loki had warded against any intruders for a little peace during his time ‘being grounded’ and forced to stay close to the (pesky) Avengers.
Fenris whined as Loki walked towards the small sanctuary’s exit, a blurry portal to the outside.
“You must stay here Fenris, I need to bring someone to meet you.” Loki rolled his eyes when Fenris whined louder, how was this the same creature Hela commanded not 3 months ago.
During Loki’s time living with the Avengers he had mapped out every room, passageway and hidden compartment. Along with all of the residents schedules, habits and even the air ducts due to Clint’s preferred travel, (In the end led to nothing interesting, disappointing but not surprised) but still, it was memorized.
Things Loki thought could be useful information would he ever want to try breaking out or breaking in again.
Mainly he used such knowledge for small pranks, he is the trickster god after all.
But it also made easy for entering the compound and sneaking through without being noticed.
Silently working his way up to one of the many lounging rooms in the building he found Gummy, a huge mass covered in short fur splayed out near the floor to ceiling windows and enjoying the sun and fast asleep, the person he was searching for sat comfortably against the beast using him as a backrest.
“(Y/n),” Loki’s mischievous grin overtook his face, now realizing how interesting things could get if it all works out. “I have a challenge to offer you.”
Gummy’s tail started thumping, shaking the sturdy floors only slightly, immediately recognizing his voice.
The young avenger looked up, catching his near contagious grin, fun was always near with Loki around.
“Fenris. THE Fenris? The one that’s supposed to swallow the sun and fought Hulk?” (Y/n) sounded something between skeptical and impressed .
He only scoffed “Your ‘vikings’ took many of our prophecies and twisted them into something else. Eating the sun is an entirely different story.”
They stood beside him, watching the large wolf curiously and only raised an eyebrow as Loki’s words.
“So,” (Y/n) drawled the word "what exactly is my challenge here?“
Loki shifted his weight, he actually hadn’t thought things would work quite this smoothly.
"Tame him.”
The teen smiled, excitement lighting up their eyes and looking from Loki towards the wolf almost ecstatic.
"No. No no no no that can’t be possible. That thing can’t be here I threw it off a cliff! It fell!“ Bruce started to panic as soon as Fenris turned to see what the commotion was only making a gruff sound of acknowledgment and glancing at him.
You only rolled your eyes as the rest of the Avengers finally poured out of the compound to see what your big surprise was.
And it was indeed ‘big’. Big enough to get half of your adopted family riled up.
Bucky though seemed to be enjoying himself , unable to fully conceal the grin on his face because 1- a giant dog, the future is awesome, and 2- Steve’s slack jawed face was hilarious.
Thor was speechless, he had been sure Fenris would have perished but the fates aren’t often easy on him, and he knew Loki wouldn’t put (Y/n) in danger so this wasn’t a sudden ploy to take over, it was… odd. So he opted to stand aside while the rest of the Avengers handled whatever lay ahead.
"You said we could get a puppy!” (Y/n) retaliated while Bruce became near frantic and Tony said no over and over while staring at Fenris and started towards where he lay, his tail starting to wag as you approached.
“(Y/n) don’t go near-” Steve tried to grab your arm but you were already leaned against the mound of soft fur.
“That thing-” Tony gestured wildly to Fenris with one arm for emphasis “is not a puppy!”
“Ton, all dogs are puppies.”
Tony pinched his temples and took a deep breath “This is not what I pictured when you begged for permission to get a ‘service dog’ for Barnes.”
You shrugged, not particularly worried and fluffed a patch of fur. “I never specified what kind of dog.”
“That’s a wolf, (Y/n). A bloodthirsty, gigantic wolf.”
“Ancestor of Pomeranians.”
“That makes no difference!”
Loki stood off to the side while (Y/n) ‘convinced’ the avengers to allow Fenris to stay. (Not that they truly had any decision in the matter, your mind was made up.)
Thor walked up beside his brother and coughed “So then I suppose Gummy…is?”
His hand gesture towards the pair of now happily frolicking beasts then at Loki was easy enough to understand and enough to make Loki roll his eyes at Thor’s stiffened posture.
“Yes, Thor. Gummy is my offspring. I thought it would have been obvious enough to you.” Loki’s eyes stayed trained on his children, not giving his brother the satisfaction.
Thor relaxed, it would’ve been rude to suggest whatever Gummy is was his kid if he wasn’t “I had my suspicions. He grew rather quickly.”
“Really? I hadn’t noticed.”
A loud whine rang out when Gummy slammed his weight into Fenris before hopping away and giving a raspy bark to play again.
Thor smiled warmly, he was glad to see his family getting along so well, much happier than anyone had been in Asgard.
There was another thing about Loki’s nonhumanoid children. They tended to grow large.
Large enough that someone or other would always decide they were perfect to ride into battle at some point and it appeared Gummy was no exception for size.
The small clumsy creature he had brought to Midgard not even a year ago was now large and lumbering, a sturdy creature that was still filled with playful excitement and a nightmare if you’re caught when he’s bounding through the halls beside (Y/n).
By now he was nearly the size of a hummer, probably almost fully grown if he ends up anything like his siblings have been.
None of the team besides Thor seemed happy about Gummy anymore, being apprehensive in the first place and now that he didn’t seem to stop growing, it didn’t help the matter.
But none of them had the nerve to tell you or the heart to suggest separating you from Gummy either.
Loki couldn’t help but wonder if Gummy would soon join Fenris and Sleipnir in the profession of battle steed, you were an Avenger after all, and Gummy’s horn like nose and bulk would make a decent battering ram he supposed.
By some hope Loki wished briefly that that wouldn’t be the case. That the cheerfulness and innocent thrill for life wouldn’t be dulled in battle, even for a good cause.
Maybe it was time for Loki to take another visit.
Gummy was huge and Gummy was growing. He ate enough to feed the entire team twice over, Thor included, for every meal. Really, he would be hard to keep if not for Tony’s credit card.
But he was your baby.
Just a really overgrown puppy honestly, complete with lethal slobbery kisses, a wagging tail of doom and he loved following you everywhere.
Fetch too, fetching was fun and he was perfect for teaching new tricks! Gummy loved to please everyone and get attention, you and Peter would train him new little tricks with a pile of treats every so often.
Poor Gummy always got so sad when people he tried to greet to the compound got scared of him. Usually looking so heartbroken that they would find the courage to pet him lightly before running off to whatever they showed up for.
From time to time members of the team would get testy about Gummy, it was ridiculous but not hard to see.
You though, had a perfect plan of how to utilize Gummy and make him an official member and true asset to the team.
As Gummy grew he was no longer a soft and squishy fuzzlump, his skin grew to a thick hide like wild boars but stronger, his wings were still short for his size but could still fly him, quite expertly with your practice might you add, but beat like nothing else and were near impenetrable.
So really you had the perfect use for him in the field, you couldn’t wait to show the others.
When Loki landed on Earth this time he came by himself, planning to check in on Gummy and leave without being spotted, he couldn’t be seen as sentimental after all. He has a reputation to uphold, and your affectionate hugs are more than enough wounds to it already.
What Loki did not expect to find when he arrived though was young (Y/n) and Gummy in the field behind the compound, nor with him wearing a contraption on his back just odd enough to cement fears within the god.
Gummy sensed his presence before you did, making a deep barkish yap before bounding over excitedly.
“Loki! You’re just in time.” (Y/n) ran up after Gummy, then excitedly tightening one of the leather straps on his side
“In time for what exactly?” Loki inquired while Gummy licked the side of his face in one swipe, sadly he, along with many others had given up trying to stop such greetings awhile ago. It was futile.
“Well,” you hauled yourself up on a sort of rope ladder was against his son’s side “I figured since he’s so strong and naturally armored that he could help out on missions!” you spoke with glee.
Loki didn’t know why his throat tightened slightly, this is something obvious to be expected.
He swallowed thickly. “Help how exactly?”
Loki envisioned Gummy when he was smaller, always playing and yapping, the most pain the small thing had ever endured was falling when his clumsy wings flew him into walls on occasion. Thor being one of such walls.
Loki looked at his son, still with tail wagging, happy and thrilled by life, untouched purity of heart.
Still, he told himself, even with hardships and battles alike Gummy would be loved and cared for unlike his others. There was no need to fret about the unchangeable.
“Well,” by now you had already climbed onto Gummy’s back, not that the creature even registered your weight “I thought he’d be perfect for evacuating and getting anyone trapped to safety while we fight, so I made a harness and we’ve been practicing rumble removal.”
(Y/n)’s hand patted Gummy’s neck, a proud grin on their face and Gummy wiggled a little harder at the attention.
Loki on the other hand was, possibly for the first time in his life, speechless. His eye twitched ever so slightly.
“What.”
“What d’you think? We’ve still got a lot of training to do before he’d hit the field with us but I think’ll work great! Peter’s been helping me create obstacles for Gummy to solve…”
The sound of your voice turned to static in Loki’s ears while you droned on, comprehending your words then turning to other matters, a possibly plan for self redemption concocting in his mind.
It wasn’t uncommon for Loki to join Thor on his visits to Midgard, whether voluntary or because Thor wouldn’t let him stay behind.
Usually the latter. Although Loki was no longer a seen as the enemy, having become one of the Avengers as well as part of his punishment. He had even become almost fond of the youngest hero during his time on ‘house arrest’ at the tower.
A teen named (Y/n), who much to his annoyance at the time refused to take his unsocial brooding as an answer and stubbornly demanded his friendship.
This happened to be one of the times he was more compliant for the trip, possibly having whispered the suggestion of visiting earth into his brother’s ear so it wouldn’t appear that he was the one who wanted to go.
Thor was easy enough to trick into it, always enthusiastic about seeing his friends and luckily so preoccupied with it he didn’t ask where Loki had been, nor of the basket he carried.
Heimdall teleported them to Midgard in an instant, the smell of singed grass permeated the air as they headed towards the compound, Thor striding ahead with thrill of reunion.
As always, the team came to greet them upon arrival, all but one already present once they walked through the entrance.
Soon after, the sound of running and Thor was attacked from behind, arms around his neck in what would be a choking hug as (Y/n) dangled on his back.
“No one told me you were coming!” there was too much happiness in (Y/n)’s voice to really be a complaint.
Thor laughed, spinning in a circle while the teen clung to not be thrown off. “Apologies dear (Y/n), we hadn’t planned this visit until now.”
Their attention quickly turned to Loki, no doubt ready to climb down and pounce on him for a less dramatic hug, it was tradition by now.
“I have brought you a gift from Asgard.” Loki didn’t miss the spark in (Y/n)’s eye, attention turning to the woven basket at his side.
“Really? Can I open it?” (Y/n) gave Loki a brief hug before turning attention to the container and he nodded.
Tugging the case closer, it wasn’t the lightest object, before undoing the small latch, looking up at him with questioning gaze, it appeared to be only a pelt wedged inside.
“Tip the basket on it’s side, it’ll roll out.”
Gently turning it over they waited, the rest of the Avengers creating a wide enough circle around you to see just what Loki might have brought to earth this time.
Only a few seconds passed before the fuzzy thing rolled out, a bit clumsily perhaps.
A wide yawn escaped the creature’s beak like lips as it unfurled, clacking its mouth together. A fat tail uncurled and stumpy limbs stretched out, it was covered in head to toe short russet fur and golden cat slit eyes.
It looked around at all the people, tiny leathery wings extending before lifting the tired creature into the air a few feet, round stomach for all to see and a small curious noise about the new surroundings.
It’s hovering didn’t last long before the small and unused to flight wings stumbled, ready to plummet the tiny beast to the ground.
Luckily it was saved by the quick reflexes of (Y/n), catching the armful of pudginess and fuzz before it hit the floor.
It yipped, starring up at them seemingly surprised by it’s savior
“Hello there cutie” (Y/n) grinned at it, fully enamored by the adorable creature and readjusted to better hold the small animal, it’s tail thumping against you with excitement for the attention.
Loki ignored the judgmental and unsure expressions on the Avenger’s faces. The youngling in your arms was harmless and not their place to interfere.
Thor could sense the uneasiness of his companions, clapping Steve on the shoulder “Come now friends! There is no need to worry, Loki means no harm at all.”
It was a few hours after that Loki decided to check up on you and your ‘gift’, wondering what exactly you might be doing with him.
Found easily enough, you were in your room sitting on the floor with who he recognized as Peter Parker, he had met the boy during his last visit to earth.
Loki announced his presence with a cough, barely gaining your attention from the ball of fur on the floor.
“Hey Loki!” you smiled at him before returning your attention to that in front of you.
Peter seemed apprehensive to touch the beast, though only about the size of a fat pygmy goat, opting to keep his hands to himself and observe intently from a few feet away sitting cross legged as you played with the joyful creature, not the slightest worry.
Amusing, he thought.
“Have you figured what you plan to name it?” Loki kept his voice even, uninterested almost.
“I’ve decided to call him Gummy! ‘Cause he’s so cute and pudgy” the glee in (Y/n) voice was unmistakable.
Loki’s nose scrunched up slightly at the name, how…undignified.
Gummy though seemed more than content, splayed out on his back, wiggly limbs in the air as his round belly was being rubbed.
Loki was the god of mischief. Of trickery. He was only recognized and judged by his faults, remembered for his lies and failures.
It was something that affected his children as well, Hel, Fenris, Jormungand, Sleipnir even. They were all shunned and treated with malice merely for their heritage.
And now, ‘Gummy’. Such a ridiculous and undignified name, creature or not he was still the child of a god, a child of Asgard.
Not that anyone would expect as much, a fat, fur covered squishy thing with tiny wings that somehow kept it afloat. And being raised by a Midgardian of all things, it was ridiculous.
But there was Gummy, yipping with joy and rolling across the floor as he played with (Y/n), unaware of Loki watching from the door.
Clueless to who he even really was.
Loki smiled as he watched the two play with gentle roughhousing, not missing the gleeful sounds when stomach fur was ruffled.
Gummy, the first of Loki’s children to ever receive a happy life.
I really hate when you want to read a specific fanfic and it doesn’t exist, and maybe you’ve requested it and no one feels the idea (understandable) but you’re left like
If I want this fic I’m going to have to fucking write it myself aren’t I
