(Y/n) looked at her real estate agent skeptically, the house she was standing in the hallway of was absolutely divine, it had burned down nearly 6 years ago but had been reclaimed since then and turned into a lavish home, 4 bedrooms and bathrooms, an office space, a huge living room, an even bigger kitchen and dining area, not to mention the garden, it was modern and sleek, it even had a pool, there was no way it was selling for what she were offering. She had just finished college, her dream job already bagged with a steady, and not too shabby wage already flowing, this house was more than she needed but she couldn’t shake the welcoming feeling that stayed with her from the first time she’d viewed it.
Her real estate agent, Lauren, smiled warily at the younger girl, “I’m certain, this place has been on the market for a while they’re just happy someone’s finally willing to take it off their hands. Hopefully for good.”
The younger woman noticed how Lauren grimaced at the last part of her sentence and laughed while running her hand along the smooth wall, “You say that as if the place is haunted or something.”
“Well there was that fire, and this isn’t in an attempt to scare you away but don’t you get the feeling that you’re being watched?” The (e/c) eyed girl smiled, “No. I’ve heard a lot of the viewers mention that but I actually get quite a welcoming feeling off this place. And besides,” she started patting Lauren on the shoulder, “there is no such thing as ghosts.”
Lauren laughed and shook her head, “Right you are, the place is already yours, there’s no use in worrying now.” (Y/n)’s eyes widened at Lauren’s statement, her heart buzzing with excitement, “Wait! It’s mine?”, a smile spread across the older woman’s face while she nodded her head, and showed her phone screen to (Y/n), the screen displayed the seller’s contact info and a message at the bottom of the screen that said, “Tell her she’s got it.”
After nearly a week everything was finalized and (Y/n) could finally move into her new house, which she was beyond excited about, she stood for the last time in her small city apartment and looked around at the emptiness that surrounded her, it was strange to be finally leaving the grubby apartment after spending so many years in it, it may have been in the bad side of the city, and sure, in the five years she occupied it the heating had never worked, but it had kept her off the streets while she studied to become a teacher and the countless all-nighters spent wrapped up in warm blankets, studying for finals and working to meet deadlines had definitely paid off. She smiled giving one last look around, she’d miss that place but moving on was something that she was ecstatic about.
Everything at that moment seemed to be perfect, her remaining boxes were stacked in the back of her car ready to be taken to their new home along with her as she buckled herself into the diver’s seat and began to dive, she was sure she hadn’t been this level of excited before in her life. But who could blame her? She just turned 24 and recently successfully graduated college, she was offered a job at a school she’d always wanted to teach at and she just bagged a gorgeous house to live in, what more could she need?
“Maybe a puppy…” She spoke to herself as she pulled into her new driveway, it felt different than the times she viewed it, now as well as feeling welcome she also felt secure, this place was hers, she had bought it and there was no mortgage to pay off, some of the perks of only eating canned tuna, instant noodles and microwaved dinners for 5 years. Grabbing a box from the back of the car and holding it under her arm she made her way to the front door and unlocked it with the key she’d been given.
The moving trucks had arrived a few days ago allowing (Y/n) to decorate the inside of her house somewhat. The previous owners, who had left in a rush, had left a fairly decent dining room table and set of chairs behind them, not that (Y/n) was complaining, more money to add her touch to the place. The dining room had it’s table and chairs, the living room had it’s couch, arm chairs, coffee table and TV already set up, the kitchen had all its needed appliances already installed and her bedroom had been fully furnished and decorated to (Y/n)’s liking and the house itself was already starting to feel like home.
All that (Y/n) still needed to move into the house were the boxes of clothes that sat patiently in the backseat of her car, placing the box in her arms down she made her way back through the hallway to get the remaining boxes, she noticed a man, around her age, standing at her doorway seemingly about to knock. Noticing her the man smiled and gave a small wave.
“Hey, I live just next door. My names Rin, thought I’d come welcome you to the neighborhood, hopefully you won’t be leaving in a rush.” Laughing at him she returned his smile.
“Hi, nice to meet you, I’m (Y/n). Thanks for the warm welcome, I wouldn’t worry about the leaving in a rush thing, you’ll be seeing a lot more of me with any luck.” The guy- Rin, seemed really nice, the girl was thankful for a friendly, and very pretty, face.
“Why is that? You a skeptic?” His maroon eyebrow raised and his lips formed a teasing smirk, (Y/n) only laughed and shook her head at the boy, “I guess you could say that. Why? Do you believe in the ghost stories?”
Rin kept his smirk as he answered. “Hard not to when you know the ghosts.” Only rolling her eyes at him (Y/n) muttered a “whatever” before walking past the maroon headed boy toward the open back door of her car.
“Even if there are ghosts- which there are not, the house gives me a good vibe I’m sure my new ghostly housemates and I will have tons of fun.” She shot back somewhat sarcastically, grabbing a box from the car.
“Here let me help.” Rin said grabbing the final box from her car and shooting her another smile before shutting her car door, “Thanks, you can just set it down in the kitchen.” she responded walking through the front door, Rin following close behind her.
After he passed the threshold he spoke up loudly, “Hey guys, don’t go scaring this one off,” he paused to look at the (e/c) eyed girl, shooting her a wink before continuing, “she’s cute.”
Laughing at him again (Y/n) shook her head, ‘well, we’ll get along just fine’ she thought to herself watching the shark toothed male chuckle to himself as he set the box down on the kitchen table.
After spending some time with her new neighbor she’d discovered he was friends with the four boys who were killed in the fire six years ago, he’d told her that they were renting the place out to help them all get through college a little easier, he’d also said the fire started while they were all asleep and they couldn’t get out. The story made (Y/n) a little sad but she could tell it hurt Rin to tell.
“I’m sorry it happened to them, from what you tell me they seemed like good guys.” She smiled sadly giving his shoulder a squeeze, he returned her smile and spoke again.
“I know you don’t believe in ghosts or whatever, but I’ve seem them here, so has everyone else, that’s why the place is so cheap and why people tend to move out so fast. People usually say the place gives them a bad vibe so I keep my mouth shut but you said it gives you a good vibe which means they don’t mind you being here, which means there must be something good about you, right?”
(Y/n) shrugged while pushing a strand of her (h/c) hair behind her ear, “It’s not that I don’t believe, it’s just that I’ve never had any experience with this stuff, I believe that this house does have a lot of energy but people always say it’s dark, that’s what I don’t believe. If you say you saw them, then I’m sure they’re here I’m just the type of person who needs to see things for myself, y’know? Plus I’ll be good to them if they’re good to me. Thanks for telling me, though. I know that probably took a lot seeing as I’m still a stranger and all.”
Rin smiled at her “It’s okay, you’re way cooler than anyone else who’s ever moved in, can’t have me getting attached only to have you move out because you saw Haru in your pool now can we?” (Y/n) laughed yet again and shook her head.
“Don’t worry, you won’t get rid of me that easily. You’re pretty cool too and hey, I get into any ghostly trouble I can run right to my new favorite neighbor.” She smiled with a wink in his direction.
The conversation lightened up from then on and the pair spent another while talking, by now the sun had set and it was clear that a really good friendship was forming, deciding that it was probably time for him to go they both made their way toward the door.
“Rin. You’re leaving?” The voice caused them both the freeze, and (Y/n) to grab Rin’s arm. “…Did you-” “Yeah I heard it.”
A quiet set in the hall, neither person dared turn around to greet the voice that sounded from behind them, a thought passed through (Y/n)’s mind, this would prove that there was in fact spirits in the house, it’d let her know whether or not Rin’s tales of apparitions were true. Even after hearing the voice (Y/n) didn’t feel any fear, nor any bad energy.
Taking a deep breath and tightening her grip on Rin’s arm, (Y/n) began to turn around moving Rin with her, when she was turned she was met with a pair of deep blue eyes, their gaze flickering from Rin to her.
Rin gulped before taking a step forward easing (Y/n), who was wide eyed with shock, with him toward the boy with black hair standing at the other end of the hallway, speaking slowly Rin took (Y/n)’s hand from his arm and held it in his hand, he was half trying to comfort her but also half trying to make sure she didn’t run away.
