Soren x Mage!Reader ♦️ Soren has, and always will think magic is weird, and creepy, and strange and…but he’s dealt with his father and his sister practicing it, what’s one more loved one?
♦️ When you first tell him you can see him visibly wilt a bit. “Are you sure you want to? It’s probably hard…and creepy. You’ve got to smash bugs in your hands and learn a bunch of runes an-”

“Yes Soren, I’m sure.” You say, offering him a reassuring smile. “It’ll be fine.”
♦️ The very next day, he delivered a parchment wrapped package at your door. A small note at the top with a single sloppy “-S.” on it. Upon unwrapping, you found multiple small tomes, beginners books, an encyclopedia of magicka, tucked away in the first cover is a note in fine handwriting.

“These will be all she will need to begin learning. Send her to me once she finishes the first book.” You assume that it’s from Viren, which means Soren went directly to his father after you told him.
♦️ When you first start casting magic though, you’re so confused. It’s really quite hard to remember the exact pronunciations and such. Half-way through casting a rather simple fireball spell, your mind runs a blank. “Oh…oh no” You hush and Soren nearly falls from his chair, lurching out of his half-asleep state.
♦️ “Oh no?” He asks, eyes wide.
♦️ “I can’t remember the word to finish the spell.” You hush, watching the flame lapping up and around your hands. ♦️ “Oh no.” Soren groans, casting his eyes about. “Le Flambo? Flamiligus? Flame-Leave-My-Hand-Icus?” He tries, his eyes caught on your hand. ♦️ “The book Soren. Get the book.” You scold, pointing with your free hand. ♦️ He pushes off the chair hard enough to topple it, flipping open the book and – ♦️ “Relinquo.” He yells and you repeat him, despite it sounding vaguely wrong. The Fire lept from your hand only to immediately glide to the curtains of the room, chewing through them. ♦️ A stern cough from behind you alerted you to Viren entering the room, lips pursed as he watches his expensive curtains destroyed by carelessness.
♦️ Soren drenched the wall with a bucket of water, without a second thought. ♦️ “Soren!” Viren snapped. “That was a bucket of water gathered under the full moon, have you any idea how long I’ll have to wait to get another?” He let out an exasperated sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Never mind. Just leave.” ♦️ You and he left like scalded cats, only to giggle about it once you’d put a distance between his father and yourselves.
