You hissed when the old massasauga poked and prodded at the large cut on your leg. You had taken an unfortunate tumble into the naga’s pit, not without good reason! A sudden cold front swept through, gathering the warmest blankets and objects that you owned you raced out to make sure that the naga would be able to remain warm during this sudden cold front. 

“Sorry.” the massasauga’s voice rough, but kind. Treating your wound with care while he wrapped it with one of smaller blankets you had brought, tearing a few into strips so it would remain in place. 

“It’s not your fault, I didn’t think I’d drop my flashlight,” you replied, a smile on your face in an attempt to comfort the naga while he dragged several blankets onto the floor of his cave. Wrapping a few around you and some on his own body after coiling around you. “Hopefully what I brought with me will help to keep you warm.” 

The massasauga just watched you, those baby blue eyes soft and welcoming rather than their usual cold and distant. A small hum, followed by a chuckle the massasauga spoke. 

“Thank you. You do not have to do something like this for me. We are not even the same species.” 

“Nonsenses were friends and friends help one another. Same species or not, you help other’s when they need it. Besides, your kind can’t handle the cold well right?” 

“Hm some of us can, just depends on what species you are.” the massasauga replied, his voice showing how tired he is. The silence that followed was comfortable, welcoming and warm. 

The naga took hold of your hand, the naga’s thumb rubbing circles on the back of your hand and the massasauga’s rough voice. 

“Jack.” 

“Hm?” 

“My name, it’s Jack.” the massasauga replied, a lovely smile on the naga’s face. So lovely that you wanted to take a picture of it or kiss it, you couldn’t decide. 

“Jack, what a nice name.” the naga’s face seemed to become colored when you said his name, the coils becoming a little tighter before he hid his face on your shoulder.
